It would be nice to see the current trend of ever-increasing software bloat turn around in favor of better efficiency. Reducing our power consumption and replacing our hardware less frequently would definitely help the environment.

Dear CEO,

Games that don't respect my time are not worth more to me.

You don't need the launcher. You can run bg3_dx11.exe directly. You will need DXVK, of course, though that's already present if you're running it from Steam.

Is there another +1 buff in the game? Because 20 and 21 are effectively the same.

Nice to see they turned the extension into a built-in feature.

Not to worry. I think this qualifies as a "cold day in Hell" situation.

It's hard to have sympathy for a science denier who thinks he has the right to endanger other people's health.

Thanks for the warning. Looks like you're not the only one affected.

Thank you.

I was very close to reporting and blocking a certain user who has been spamming meme trash for the past couple of days. A little bit doesn't bother me, but dominating the forum with it is selfish, and makes it a place I don't want to be.

It might not be much of a loss. The average quality of answers there has been below mediocre for as long as I can remember.

Lots of people eager to earn points by showing off what they think they know, relatively few who truly understand the nontrivial issues, and the former often drowning out the latter. The result is like Reddit for programmers.

The moderation system also seems to optimize for mediocrity, often closing questions as opinion-based if there's even a hint of nuance.

I used to spend time there every week answering questions on subjects that I understand well, but competing with broken incentives in an ocean of know-it-all personalities was tiring, so I almost never bother any more.

I would like to see something replace it. I don't know what form that should take. A collective knowledge base with a culture like that on Hacker News would be interesting, though I don't know if that's feasible without someone selecting and paying good moderators.

Solidigm P44 Pro is a good choice. This model is based on the Hynix Platinum P41, which is well regarded. They provide a bootable linux ISO image for updating firmware, so you can boot that directly, or potentially extract the files and run the updater on your distro of choice. (It's probably best not to do it on an installation running from the SSD, of course.)

I don't see any firmware bug workarounds for these models in the linux kernel sources, which is a good sign.

Solidigm is the company resulting from SK Hynix recently buying Intel's NAND business. They apparently contribute to LVFS, which is another good sign, even if the current model's firmware isn't on there yet.
