just say you didn’t get the joke. it’s fine

once you lay deep sea cable, afaik you don’t really touch it again… it’s better to just lay another one

[-] pupbiru@aussie.zone 5 points 1 month ago

it shouldn’t, but realistically it will and given that it’s good to be able to clean it up

we call it democracy sausage and they tend to be at most polling places and run by local charities or community groups… it’s brilliant tbh - national pride in our democracy manifested in additional support to charity

worth clarifying though afaik brave has said they won’t remove v2; not that they will continue to support it… ie if there’s a breaking change in upstream chromium, i’m not sure i have confidence that they’ll spend a bunch of time working around it

this is why for truly important consent it’s useful to say “enthusiastic consent” - it’s not just “yes (perhaps because i feel pressure or obligation)”, it’s “yes i’d love to!”

also (australia here), i don’t think i’ve ever waited more than a week to see my specific doctor, and i can usually find someone that day if it’s urgent?

oh also i can call a number and get a doctor to come to my house in a few hours

also it’s all free (other than taxes, but i guarantee my taxes are cheaper than insurance!… and you can pay more for more luxury care - which the government subsidises the same amount)

… also also i still have private insurance for some “make life nicer” non-necessities

b2b and audited security standards are a whole different thing - you deal with finance and health you’ve gotta prove to a 3rd party over and over that you have controls and technology in place to make sure you aren’t lying

this isn’t consumer BS

certainly record to flash, but you need to have notifications when the camera can’t be contacted/when storage would be theoretically getting full

that does open you up a little though: recording on device means the attacker can just destroy/steal the camera which is pretty easy because they, by definition pretty much, are in a place that’s trivial for an attacker to access

[-] pupbiru@aussie.zone 4 points 8 months ago

this is correct, yes

and afaik any entity with a banking license must trade whatever (perhaps within reason?) amount of 5c pieces for larger denominations, so it’s not like you couldn’t pay if you only had bunch of 5c pieces; you just have to do the work to convert it to something less annoying

or did she make a choice to sacrifice 1 to save 2?

trolly problem

what society defines as moral isn’t “ridiculous stuff”… pressure is one of the only tools we have to ensure companies behave morally

i’m not saying this is moral or not, but (and i’m about to make a reductio ad absurdum argument so we can pull it back after) we should absolutely boycott any retailer that sells nazi flags, right?

given that the answer to that question - from most people - would be a resounding yes, there’s certainly a line in the sand… for some people, australia day sits on that same side of the line

personally, i don’t really celebrate australia day more because i think nationalism is a heaping pile of shit that reinforces us vs them in and out group mentality, racism etc and should be fought in all its forms… i like australia and think we have a pretty good culture and way of living, but buying bullshit with a flag on it to use for a single day to celebrate how good we are is my definition of wasteful and narcissistic
