Man, I didn't get what I'm looking at at first. But after reading the description and watching the video - pretty amazing!

Ente is as close as you can get to Google Photos with E2EE right now. I recently migrated there. The migration wasn't painless and involved some scripting to handle albums and duplicates but the service itself is really good. Can recommend!

Hey, I've been really careful with my words to NOT say that. I was just wondering and I acknowledge that it might be nonsense.

You've hit the nail on the head - they are forced to do it by the EU.

Thanks!

Yup, it's part of the home screen and can't be disabled or replaced. Until today it could only search Google so it's a big step in the right direction anyway.

This is exactly what I thought about too. My knowledge about Android development is pretty limited but I might try to research that later.

They could literally add a text field allowing you to enter the search URL to be opened in the default browser... But I guess making this feature actually good isn't really in their interest.

I'm seeing comments like this all the time and I'm always baffled. I'm using DuckDuckGo as a main search engine but I have to fall back to Google quite often because DuckDuckGo is just worse for me. And any other search engine I tried was even worse that that. It's true that Google results don't feel as accurate as they used to, but I genuinely haven't found better alternatives. What do you recommend?

I just don't think the majority of people are motivated enough. I have met many people who have no hobbies and no ambitions and just don't want to do anything productive. They would like to spend their entire lives playing video games or partying or something similar.

And this is just about the lack of motivation, but what about malicious actors? People who would sabotage other's efforts or try to profit in an unfair way? How would you ensure this won't happen?

What about shitty and unpleasant but necessary jobs no one wants to do?

The idea that once you remove the money everyone will suddenly feel the desire to serve the society is bonkers. Don't get me wrong, I don't love capitalism. I want to believe the world like that is possible, I really do, but I just can't see it working. I live in a society where I have to use a 3 kg bike lock in order not to lose my bike and even then I have to detach the $10 light and take it with me because otherwise it won't be there when I come back. I have zero trust and belief that such society can magically self organize and work together towards a common happiness.

This is the first time in my life when I encountered an opinion that calling someone is somehow rude and reserved for emergencies. In my social circle and family people just call when they want to talk. Sure, we text often too, but calling is completely normal. And if you can't or don't want to talk, you just don't pick up the phone.

I'm genuinely baffled.

This is actually very interesting and I had no idea. Thanks!

No one will convince me that this "Glyph Interface" is anything more than a total gimmick. Some of the gimmicks are impressive at least, this is just a bunch of white LEDs. Yeah, it does look kinda cool, but nothing more than that, focusing so much attention on such irrelevant detail of the phone is just weird.

I definitely wouldn't be as upset as I am right now. I would consider paying to be able to continue to use the service.

However, right now, I wouldn't come back to Reddit even if they called off the whole thing and decided to leave free access to the API. I have zero trust in Reddit after all that happened. To be honest I'm kinda glad it all went down like this. At least we got to know their real colors.
