Even now, my brain won't ever wrap its head around modern countries like Ireland and N. Ireland feeling the need for things like "peace walls" between neighbors.

Your comment sums up a lot of my feelings: a true peace can't be forced from the outside. It's way too complicated and emotional for simplistic shit. And you can see it in the comments around here too. Everyone's wrapped up in intense anger, blame, and reciting the litany of past horrors as justification for new ones.

You mean the half of humanity without clean water, reliable electricity, and certainly no Internet emits less CO2 than the top 10% (630M!) wealthiest people in the entire world? There are not 630M Billionaires. There are not even 630M Millionaires. An income of $80-100k puts you at 10% worldwide.

Sure, go right ahead. Tell the family with an income of $80k that they need to cut out their use of private jets and mega yachts. That'll fix climate change right up.

Well, uhh, sounds like you could use some more traffic enforcement there. Maybe with AI and cameras ;)

I troll them back by writing out: Liked "Copy-paste-of-your-whole-message"

So you support defederation then. Interesting.

It was not to compare ideologies but the end result of extremism and radicalization. Words become violent action and a willingness to forego peaceful change.

That said, someone just insulted me by calling me a Liberal so I dunno, feels kinda MAGA-y to me ;).

I personally wouldn't call this brigading per se but I stand by it as evidence of the eagerness to derail things into wildly offtopic discussions that poison the well for everyone else. And no, just because someone says something first doesn't mean you are compelled to respond until they concede or give up.

After more reading elsewhere, it also speaks to an all too comfortable relationship with political violence. "I'm not saying we put people up against the wall... But if we did, who would go first? The bankers or the factory owners?" The offtopic bit is destructive to community building but the absolute fascination of who dies for what reason is pretty damned concerning.

The soviet combat performance was much less important than the fact that Russia had just broken their alliance with the incredibly war crimin' Japanese Empire. Not exactly something that I would want to call out if I was on Team Red. Just sayin'.

A long winded manifesto justifying mass state executions for political enemies.

This also neatly plays into my other reason for defederation: Hexbears seem acutely susceptible to lengthy preaching and insatiable defense of their ideology. Even if such ideology didn't involve beheading the heretics, it's unwelcome as an off-topic distraction in almost all situations and communities suffer as a result.

Can you describe what "propaganda barriers" means? From my perspective, it's absurdly easy for foreign governments to bot-farm posts in an attempt to sway public opinion in the US.

And of course it's acceptable/encouraged to criticize China. But it's also acceptable/encouraged to criticize Joe Biden, Donald Trump, AOC, DeSantis, Obama, and on and on. There's not really a shortage of hateful and divisive content out there right now. The rage-bait about what The Other Team just did and how America is in terminal decay are the biggest propaganda wins of all time. And news orgs, desperate for revenue in an age of digital media and ad blockers, will chase whatever is stuck in people's heads so they fuel it even more.

Isn't Apple restricting their part of that to EU citizens?

I don’t want smartwatches (they require a specific app from a specific developer to sync)

Look into GadgetBridge. It's an app to connect to smart watches that's so privacy friendly it forbids any Internet access at all. A Pebble watch will have week long battery life, which is pretty good, and any other solution is going to need to be charged at least that much.
