Sure, but people wanting families are facing these decisions right now. They don't want to wait for society to get its head screwed on straight. The root comment was "stay at home parents! no more daycare!" but sailed right over all the macro and micro consequences of that.

Stupid lizard brains are too easily tricked with tribalism and anger though. It takes a real conscious effort to curate your feed like that.

Any nuanced opinion on Gaza gets trashed because both "teams" view you as the enemy. You're always pushed towards absolutism.

It's absolutely history but just not Civil War history. This is the Charlottesville statue and it's iconic of our contemporary far right nationalist problem. Imagine things like this being a part of an exhibit laying out the turmoil our country is going through.

Edit: A lot of key pieces of history are missing because people didn't look to the future. I think some of it should have been carefully stored in a basement somewhere. Out of sight for at least 20 years.

Between the indiscriminate chemical weapons and the nepotistic generals ordering hundreds of thousands to their futile deaths, isolationism in WW1 was still probably the right idea.

There's more to "AI" than ChatGPT. Deepfakes, propaganda swarms, precise tracking of people online across pseudonyms/handles. The power available to malicious organizations and governments is absolutely terrifying. Any social media that doesn't also have AI-based countermeasures is vulnerable.

Err, what? Look at pot "legalization". It's still technically illegal but states don't care. You'll see billboards about it down the highway. Previously we had a patchwork of which states had gay marriage, even when DOMA was on the books. Then there's the whole "sanctuary city" thing where support isn't given to Federal officers.

The Federal government might be stronger than the founders intended but it's not that strong compared to other countries. It's a miracle we all drive on the same side of the road.

Not sure how you can idolize Nazi Germany without being a Nazi. As for the rest, any good faith attempt in debate will be met with skepticism at best. The Rights propaganda machine is too strong.

That link says nothing of the sort! It actually says that Matrix is a strong choice for privacy and the underlying protocol follows best practices for security.

What are these security concerns you're talking about?

This is what I do. My full mental list:

  • -11C -> 11F ^^(really 12 but close enough)^^
  • 0C -> 32F
  • 4C -> 40F
  • 16C -> 61F
  • 28C -> 82F
  • 40C -> 104F

It provides enough buckets to be conversational.

None of this makes any sense. How are invisible gestures more intuitive than a button? And aren't gestures literally "hand gymnastics"? Gestures and any "hidden" input are decidedly user unfriendly precisely because they're invisible. I don't recall specifics but there have definitely been apps where a user gets stuck on a screen because the developer unexpectedly opted for a gesture instead of a visible widget.

Gestures are good for the screen real estate part but that's kinda it, IMO. I stopped fighting the current and (mostly) adapted.

My Pass setup uses an NFC Yubikey, which works on my PC and Android. On Android, Open Keychain can use the key for the ssh connection as well.

The git server for syncing is just ssh with a forced command.

The gpg key itself is backed up on a thumb drive, in case I need to recreate the yubikey.

Is this the same UN that recognized Palestinian territory as Israeli?
