Damn, that's the shortest memory I've ever seen. I'd give you a medal or something, but you might forget what it is and try to eat it.

Plot twist: it's their (child's) 260th birthday and they still won't move out of the fucking house

Luckily I don't have to be concerned about this hypothetical situation, as I have The Gay™️. I'll be sipping on my margarita, amused while the family that wanted to 'try having a child' is in tears as their 260 year old child throws their hotel mattress from the 6th floor balcony.

sip

"dating" (fucking) apps: ew ❌

becoming a furry and then dating exclusively within the fandom for a much smaller pool of candidates but that are generally much more intelligent and just as socially awkward as you so the awkwardness cancels itself out: ☑️

My first unofficial bf (really early in my teens) was a normie, and when that collapsed I went furry-only for relationships, never looked back. Had some amazing relationships due to it. The intelligence bar is much, much higher, so when you get into a conversation, it's a deep, insightful, intriguing topic. My ex, he has adhd, autism, and several other quirks, and I could listen to him talk about stuff for hours, literally. The excitement he got from discussing something he was interested and passionate about, made topics I know nothing about and/or care nothing about, interesting; and I would always learn a nugget or two of information. And because furries are typically all weird as fuck, nothing is really weird. It's liberating to just speak your mind without being worried about being judged or criticized.

I tried to dip my toes into the traditional dating/hookup apps a decade or so ago. Assholes as far as the eye can see, nothing meets their standards and they will demean you because of it. Fuck them all, and not in the fun way.

I literally was up until 5a this morning helping a friend try to search and distrohop because Mint, Ubuntu, and Fedora all had issues with returning to desktop mode after being put in tablet/slate mode. Keyboard and touchpad just never reenabled. It goes into tablet mode just fine, but refuses to come out. Tons of threads about disabling the keyboard and touchpad because they don't disable for users, almost none for enabling when put back into laptop form.

It's their first experience with Linux and I'm super frustrated.

(my first post on lemmy so I hope I'm doing this right)

Distro: Spiral Linux (Debian, KDE spin), by recommendation

System: Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 2 (Intel) (distro recommended as I am looking for Debian(-based), + btrfs, snapshots, and fde, included via the gui installer)

I'm having issues getting ModemManager to unlock my X55 modem. This morning I wiped my drive to install Spiral (KDE), coming from Kubuntu 24.04. While the modem worked after running the proper fcc unlock script in Kubuntu, it is entirely missing in my Spiral install. While I assumed that it would not be that simple, I copied /etc/ModemManager from my Kubuntu live environment to Spiral, ran

sudo ln -sft /etc/ModemManager/fcc-unlock.d /usr/share/ModemManager/fcc-unlock.available.d/105b:e0ab

and restarted, but alas that's not enough, so I'm stuck. I have added the network profile + apn to ModemManager (the UI) but of course without the modem unlocked, I can't connect. I'm new to cellular modems in Linux (this was a windows machine until ~6 weeks ago) but I'm otherwise comfortable with the terminal and commands. The modem was working as expected last night in Kubuntu.

I haven't got the system setup yet (trying this first before going further) so if I botch this, an install is no problem. I'm assuming it's either (or both?) a service, or a missing package that sets up what's needed, but I'm at a loss as to how to proceed.

I discussed this here https://lemmy.world/comment/10540509 this morning, though I think I got all the important details typed up above. But maybe it could be useful somehow.

Any suggestions are welcomed :)
