On June 5, Members of Congress introduced the first ever bill that proactively seeks to prevent the U.S. from sending some of the worst weapons to the Israeli military.

Congresswoman Delia Ramirez (Illinois) along with Representatives Sara Jacobs (California), Pramila Jayapal (Washington), and Mark Pocan (Wisconsin) led 18 other members of Congress in introducing the Block the Bombs Act, historic legislation that would prevent Trump from sending some of the worst-offender weapons that #Israel has used to carry out genocide against #Palestinians in Gaza.

The Israeli army recently promoted an officer to the ranks of battalion commanding officer, “despite a pending decision” to launch “an investigation into reports from his subordinates that he “ordered them to shoot” two Palestinians in Gaza “carrying a white flag,” Haaretz reported on Wednesday.

An Israeli military drone “sent to the site spotted them carrying a white flag and waving their hands above their heads,” the report said.

The deputy commander, according to the two soldiers cited by Haaretz, answered, “I don’t know what a white flag is. Shoot to kill.”

He “later asked, ‘Was it carried out?’; i.e., were the Gazans shot?” the report said.

Israeli drone strikes and air raids on Thursday killed at least 23 Palestinians, including four journalists at Baptist Hospital in Gaza City.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the country is using armed gangs in Gaza to help fight Hamas, his admission coming after a new wave of military strikes on the besieged Gaza Strip that left at least 52 Palestinians dead.

Netanyahu said the government had “activated” powerful local clans in the enclave on the advice of “security officials”, his video statement posted to X on Thursday coming hours after former Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman accused him of deploying the tactic.

The statement marked the government’s first public acknowledgement that it had backed the armed Palestinian groups based around powerful families, which stand accused by aid workers of carrying out criminal attacks and stealing aid from trucks as starvation stalks the entire territory due to a punishing Israeli blockade.

An Israeli official cited by news agency The Associated Press said that one of the groups Netanyahu was referring to was the so-called Popular Forces, led by Yasser Abu Shabab, a local clan leader in Rafah.

Last month, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on the group’s activities – though it was named the “Anti-Terror Service” in the report – saying that sources in Gaza claimed it consisted of roughly 100 armed men operating with the tacit approval of the Israeli military.

In recent weeks, the Abu Shabab group announced online that its fighters were helping protect supply shipments to new US- and Israel-backed distribution centres run by the shadowy Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF)...

Like many American Jews, I was brought up to see Israel as infallible. Living among Palestinians taught me vital truths about the reality of the occupation.

I finished that year [his "year in Israel"] with little understanding of Israel’s occupation. While I noticed more “Arabs” (the word “Palestinians” never crossed our lips) around my settlement than in Israel proper, I remained oblivious to their reality of living under foreign military rule, with no citizenship or voting rights.

It is hard to imagine that 20 months after the outbreak of the Gaza war, the government of Israel may collapse – not over the most horrendous security failure in the country's history

None of these chipped an inch of plaster off the edifice of this coalition of blood; it was even strengthened by four shameless Knesset seats.

It is only now teetering because the politician at its head failed in his efforts to ensure that 80,000 young Haredi men who are subject to conscription would receive a perpetual exemption, padded with billions of shekels for the parties that represent them in the government.

On Wednesday, the three Haredi factions said they would back a bill dissolving the Knesset. The fact that the Shas party joined in the threat shocked the prime minister and his people. Is this Aryeh? Our Aryeh? Yes. Dery is subordinate to his super-extremist rabbis, who defer to their Ashkenazi brothers. If it were up to Dery, he would turn off the lights in the government compound. But not this time.

"Israel has provided assault rifles and light weapons to crime families in Gaza, on Netanyahu's orders," Lieberman, the head of the Yisrael Beiteinu party and a former finance minister and deputy prime minister, told Israeli public broadcaster Kan on Thursday...
