Hi, Arch Linux KDE 6.0.2 here, looks like Elisa can't sort album by "originalyear" but only by "year"; this mean album in the same year appears in a random order.

I have been searching with no luck, where can I find documentation for the system tray icons?

I am aware that now in Plasma 6 they come from the Icon theme, but how are they mapped? How do I know which file each tray entry is looking for on my Icon theme? What about cases like volume, Bluetooth, network... we use to have a single file for each that contained the different -states- they could be.

I tried just dropping my plasma theme icons on my Icon theme and got some weird results, for instance Bluetooth now shows the network icon, some other icons did not change at all.

You can find and download the project from the KDE Store and from https://store.kde.org/p/1804745/

Hey guys,

Just wanted to tell you that Day/Night Switcher has been finally ported to Plasma 6. I couldn't have done this with the interest by the community on the project's continuation. Anyway, let us all enjoy it.

I am only posting this in the hopes that old users who moved to Plasma 6 may catch up on the news.

See you around, kids!

In the KDE store I find only one analog clock widget with day or night colour theme choices. There is one other strange steampunk or something such clock design.

Is it very difficult to design such widgets or nobody uses an analog clock?

Can I without knowledge of programming take the existing clock (called Community Design) and modify it easily? If yes, what is the method?

I have recently upgraded to Plasma 6. It's has been riddled with issues. One major issue is that when I let the PC sit for a while, the screen turns off (as it should), then the pc just either freezes indefinitely, or wakes up, but nothing is responsive. I can't even enter my password to log in. For now, I have disabled auto suspend and turn off screen and all that. I suspend it manually when I am done working. I really don't want to reinstall, as I have had this set up for over a year and I will need to do a ton of work to get it back working. I do have root and home partitions separated, and I can reinstall, but if I absolutely had to. Is there anything I can do to remove all of plasma 5 leftover things without breaking things? Is there such thing as resetting plasma to its defaults without reinstalling? PS. I have submitted several bug reports and I will get back at it when I have time

Plasmashell inverts(flips?) screen after running a game? (X11/Plasma 6)

Hi, I'm using nvidia drivers. FOr whatever reason at times Plasmashell would get "cute" and flip the screen to the point I just run plasmashell --replace and everything goes back to normal...

Is there something... I could do ?

In journalctl I see some notices that are not errors but stuff like "trying to do something only available on X11".

Should all of these be reported?

Edit: it was a bug where I was not sure if it is a bug or just a config issue.

I would be happy about having an automated message linking to bugzilla when such a removal happens.

I posted something related to Plasma and cursor issues with Flatpaks, and it was removed.

I cannot see who removed it.

I tried contacting the KDE account but got no reply.

I've notice that I've lost Nextcloud integration in Dolphin since kde6 update, both Contextual menu element and nice sync badges in folders/files.

Syncronization works fine, but I miss that badges XD

Do you know if any needed package was not already ported to kd6?

I have dolphin-plugins installed, but there's nothing in Settings -> Config Dolphin -> Contextual Menu

thanks

Sorry to make a whole post asking this. I've been asking on Reddit, IRC, Telegram, and the issue tracker, and I haven't been able to elicit a response from someone who is running Plasma 6 with an X11 session.

Can anyone running Plasma 6 with an X11 session please tell me if it's still possible to offset a panel from a neighboring screen edge? e.g. a bottom panel right-aligned, but some distance from the right screen edge?

Thanks for any info!

@kde Classic Task Manager: auto-hiding pins when app is running.

Is there a way in Classic TaskManager to not display the pins when the corresponding app is running?

Currently if I, e.g., pin Firefox and then click on it to run it, Firefox will appear twice. Once icon-only on the left among all the other pins, then again in the middle among all the windows listed.

Contrast this with Icon-Only Task Manager, where Firefox will only appear exactly once either a pin or window.

Fedora will ship Plasma 6 with version 40.

As a prerelease, you can easily test it by rebasing an Atomic Desktop install to "Kinoite prerelease".

Now that 40 is branched, you may want to rebase to 40 instead of rawhide, which is already on Fedora 41.

Here I show the needed commands.

Fedora Kinoite 40 is perfectly usable for me!

A user has had a bad experience installing a global theme on Plasma and lost personal data.

Global themes do not only change the look of Plasma, but also the behavior. To do this they run code, and this code can be faulty, as in the case mentioned above. The same goes for widgets and plasmoids.

We are calling on the community to help us locate and quarantine defective software by using the "Report" buttons available on each item in the KDE Store.

Please see this linked image to locate them.

Meanwhile, KDE is taking measures to properly warn users before each download and we are also putting in place ways of auditing and curating what is uploaded to the KDE store.

Nevertheless, this will take time and resources. We recommend all users to be careful when installing and running software not provided directly by KDE or your distros.

And remember to report any faulty products you find!

I currently use lightly as my qt theme, but some applications like Dolphin, and Kate don't fit the style. Is there any way I can make it look like this? Is there a fork that I don't know about? If not, can somebody help me with making one?

Tbh, I'm still super impressed with smoothness of :kdenew: KDE Plasma5 on :postmarketos: PostMarketOS on such an old phone (Samsung Galaxy A300FU). Truly an achievement. Of course it is far from optimal (e.g notifications can clutter the screen and their close button are out of bound of the display).

Well done @kde@floss.social , @kde@lemmy.kde.social and @postmarketOS 👏🏼

Plasma 6 changed the way scrollbars work for some reason. Now when you click somewhere with mouse1 the elevator jums there and the window content scrolls accordingly.

Previously, it would scroll by one window's worth in the appropriate direction. If you wanted to jump to a given location, you just used mouse2 (typically the scroll wheel button nowadays). It has worked that way everywhere for literally decades.

After reading the very weird explanation for the change, I can only conclude that the devs don't even know how to use their interface.

Hence my question, is there a setting somewhere to switch back to the traditional behaviour?

In Plasma 6, multiple regression happened to the application dashboard, which is by far my favorite launcher. I did file bug reports and all that, but I would love to try to contribute by fixing some of the bugs. Where do I start and what are the required skills?
