Hi, the instance iusearchlinux.fyi has been down for some time, and I can't find anything about it or any way to contact the owner. Does anyone know something about it?

I'd like to invite anyone who is interested and feels our Instance would be a good fit for them, to join hilariouschaos.com

If you feel like you don't fit in with most of lemmy, Hilarious Chaos might be for you.

We are not federated for safety reasons. We'd be defederated anyways, and lastly, we do not want the drama that comes with federation.

Most lemmy users will not like our instance, and that's fine. If that's you, please do not join. Keep it moving, zero interest in unnecessary negativity.

You will like our Instance if:

  • You are weird
  • Tired or bored of politics all the dam time
  • Want to focus more on having fun
  • Can take a joke,
  • Like to be ridiculous
  • Not easily offended

Yes, politics from both sides (left and right) are allowed.

However, our instance is not a political instance or meant to be one. It was created and is meant for fun.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.

Standalone Instance If Your Interested In Joining

We are NOT federated with the rest of lemmy The reason is safety issues when it comes to weirdos posting disgusting crap and it's just chilling on your server.

Our admin team doesn't want that liability.

One advantage with no federation is that we welcome you to post content you've created. Like memes or funny videos.

As long as you're chill, posting in the appropriate community, we're not going to lay the hammer on you. Or take down your post over dumb stuff.

Lastly, you should join our Instance if you feel your values align with ours. It's important to note that we understand that at the end of the day, lemmy is just a hobby.

We don't have a desire to be, we'll, tyrants. People disagree, and we get that. Not everyone thinks the same or believes the same things. That's just the truth.

We're just regular people like anybody else and want a place where we can actually be ourselves and not walk on eggshells.

If you feel we might be a fit for you, feel free to sign up or message me with any questions.

Also, we understand the appeal that federation has for some folks. I'm not trying to push the idea that being standalone is better. If that's not for you

We totally get that and hope you find a lemmy server that better suits your needs.

Thank you for your time

You may ask yourself, Why is this instance so bad? Here are the reasons:

  • No backups
  • Terrible internet connection (1mb/s up and down)
  • Many fake download buttons
  • Ill shut it down without warning my users if I dont like it anymore
  • No redundancy
  • weird domain and long
  • alternative frontends
  • Ugh

Reasons why you may like it:

  • Im too lazy to sell ur personal data

Have fun

This is an announcement of not just a single instance, but of a whole family of instances that are each focused on a different topic/interest.

These lemmy instances are meant to be only destination hubs. They are not open for registration, but I am planning to let people decide what communities should be opened on those instances. I've created those because it seems that a lot of people are signing up to an instance and then fail at discovering the content.

The idea is that if we have instances that explicitly about a focused group, it will be easier for new comers to start out. It would also mean that the instances themselves are less likely to get invovled in moderation/federations issues: spammers or bad actors of any type will be reported as soon as possible and hopefully admins from the instances will focus on the instance that is originating the spam instead of the community that was a target of the attacker.

Any ideas of communities for these new instances are more than welcome, and if would like to help with moderation I'd would be eternally grateful.

No local content, but we run several seeder scripts to keep the All feed nice and populated. Sensible rules, minimal censorship, and we're even guaranteed on Fediseer! We also host the alternative front-end Photon at https://photon.frozeninferno.xyz.

Come hang out and lurk, or make the next hit community, whatever you like! Just be sure to fully read the application question when registering, we deny all applications that don't follow instructions.

A small instance with a sense of humor.

Vaguely dedicated to creating niche curated lists of only the "best" content.

Finally got my server to a very stable place, and ready to start accepting sign ups.

Pros:

  • Lemmy is my replacement for Reddit, so I'm definitely not abandoning it any time soon
  • Regularly updated
  • I manage servers for a living, I generally know how to handle stuff like this
  • Rules are lax, basically don't do anything illegal, don't spam and you won't be banned from the instance (mods can still ban you on their own discretion from specific communities)
  • Hosted in EU
  • I don't care about, nor do I collect, your personal data
  • There's a bot that travels across the Fediverse and subscribes to popular communities, meaning your "All" feed won't be half-empty and is comparable in content to the largest instances
  • The instance has "lemmings" in the name. Yes, that's a pro.
  • If you ask, I might make you a lemming-related, ai-generated profile picture

Cons:

  • It has a bus factor of one - if I get hit by a bus, the instance goes down within a month of not paying for hosting
    • As an upside, I try my best to not get hit by a bus (so far with 100% success rate)

The instance focuses on the above topics for its local communities and has community creation enabled (so long as the communities follow the instance general topics)

The instance is currently defederated from NSFW lemmy instances due to the lack of control towards those communities and them federating into all.

So after the reddit meltdown I moved over here, and made an account on .world because it was the biggest. Turns out the owner seems intent on mingling with the Facebook intruder by not defederating, so I moved over to .ml.

That one seems to have a heavy bias in what instances it is federated with, so even my all feed is heavily curated by someone else.

Besides that they both have constant connectivity issues the last days so I am looking to move to somewhere smaller that meets these requirements:

  • no federation with meta, ideally with a generally anti corporate stance
  • little to no defederated instances otherwise, I like to block / subscribe on my own according to my interests, absolute degeneracy like NSFL instances or CSAM excluded of course.
  • reliable connectivity, preferably something that remains online for more than the next month

Can someone recommend something that meets my needs? I tried looking around with the tools available to browse lemmy instances but I can’t check for all the requirements I have with the filters.

Join-Lemmy.org instance list - Official instance list.

Lemmy Explorer - Nice list of all instances with sorting and filters.

Fedidb instance list - Much faster to load & browse than Lemmy Explorer, but less options for sorting and filtering. Great if you just wanna check the top few instances quickly

Fediverse Observer map - Shows where all the Lemmy servers are physically located

Fediverse Observer list - Probably my least favourite of the options I know about, but it does exist. Fedidb and Lemmy Explorer are better.

I started a lemmy instance at https://lemmy.myserv.one but find it hard to get people to join. The instance is just a way to help reduce the load on other lemmy servers like lemmy.world so one would think it would be desirable to join as its quite fast and simply makes the experience better without detracting from anyones favorite instance they already feel loyal to. Would be interesting to hear how other people find members to join. From a user perspective I understand that looking for the most popular server and joining there makes sense since then you are doing what everyone else did, so from that point of view I understand why everything gets piled up on just a few servers.

Laguna.chat is ran by a very experienced systemadministrator with an affinity in data privacy, data engineering, data science and art. Everyone is free to join, everyone is free to request a community as long as it abides to the rules.

We do our best to keep everything friendly, snappy, fast and stable. Making sure that your account is in good hands.

To make sure you can use of the feddiverse in its full extent we are part of the Fediseer network. A network of trusted instances. Which help each other in fighting spam, trolls and misinformation.

We currently do not allow NSFW content (but we want to) as we could risk a defederation from other instances. We have proposed a change in the way NSFW content is being tagged.
