I love Monero. I love the idea, execution, speed and the community around it.

But this community can't be as blind to the fact that Monero can't disconnect from FIAT soon.

1 XMR = 1 XMR is what I see here all the time, but that's not true. You need to work for that 1 XMR, and your time has value, and that value still lives in FIAT zone.

The P2P puts a crazy amount of overhead on XMR to use the fact it's a twilight crypto now.

We've seen people here trying their best to adapt XMR as a usable currency, and watched them all fail one after another after some time. Like the dude that sold silver on his website in exchange for Monero.

I'm too stupid to have a solution, but I'm smart enough not to repeat wishy washy slogans like "good we're being delisted, now Monero will shine" - it is not good. Not at all. I don't want Privacy to be a component of Dark Web and Shady p2p websites. I want privacy to be a privelage respected by governments. I don't want monero to be a underground crypto. I want it to be mainstream, respected and utilised according to THE RIGHT to privacy.

Hi guys, so i want to buy some monero on cakewallet, i read here that it’s best to buy litecoin and then transfer it to monero, but when i tried to set up the “onramper” account, it required my personal information, and then said that my account was under review.

i live in australia and am using AUD for my fiat currency.

Hang on boys. Binance is playing their last games. Normally we don't talk price on this sub, but today is an exception.

Total XMR on Binance sell order books on four trading pairs is right now around 14k XMR. Remember if you buy any of this 14k XMR you cannot withdraw, its just fake XMR.

But let's assume they are real. Whales on Kraken alone waiting for $100:

Some big purchases are happening on tether pairs as well:

If you are in doubt, always look at fundamentals. Last time XMR was $100 Bitcoin was $15k and we have same circulating supply. Yes we do not have institutions and we do not want them. Because we are "people's currency" what Bitcoin supposed to be back when it was created.

Remember back in 2017 they said they will "tame" Bitcoin, and they did:

Satoshi whether he was Hal Finney or Len Sassaman or both doesn't matter, they created it after 2008 crisis against the banks and today Bitcoin is at the hand of the bankers. They will manipulate it, play with it. They will absorb all Pension funds into it then blow them all away.

Monero will forever be people's currency and people's true answer to CBDCs.

Don't get me wrong you can both have Monero and Bitcoin. But once your Bitcoin is marked as "tainted" you are screwed. Noone can taint your Monero ever.

Thank you to all donors!

The MAGIC Monero Fund's campaign to raise 226 XMR (28,800 USD) for three months of vtnerd (Lee Clagett) development work has succeeded.

vtnerd will work on Monero and Monero Light Wallet Server (LWS). The LWS increases Monero's capacity for more users and transactions. LWS will be even more important when Seraphis (next generation Monero transactions) is implemented because Seraphis will improve the user privacy and speed of light wallet servers.

Here are the full details of vtnerd's proposed work:

vtnerd is the author of Monero-LWS, and has been a contributor to the Monero codebase since 2016. He is a veteran of four CCS proposals.

This proposal funds 480 hours of work, ~3 months. The milestones will be hour based; 160 (1 month), 320 (2 months), 480 (3 months). At the completion of hours, he will provide the Monero Fund committee references to the work that was completed during that timeframe.

Some features that are being targeted in monero-project/monero

  • Get new serialization routine merged (work on piecemeal PRs for reviewers sake) (already in-progress)
  • Complete work necessary to merge DANE/TLSA in wallet2/epee.
  • Adding trust-on-first-use support to wallet2

Work targeted towards vtnerd/monero-lws :

  • Optional full chain verification for malicious daemon attack (already-in progress)
  • Webhooks/ZMQ-PUB support for tx sending (watch for unexpected sends)
  • ZMQ-pub support for incoming transactions and blocks (notifies of any new transaction or block)
  • Implement "horizontal" scaling of account scanning (transfer account info via zmq to another process for scanning)
  • Make account creation more "enterprise grade" (currently scanning engine re-starts on every new account creation, and uses non-cacheable memory) * Unit tests for REST-API
  • Create frontend LWS C/C++ library
  • Provide official LWS docker-image
  • Provide official snap/flatpak/appimge (tbd one or all of those)
  • Provide pre-built binaries
  • (Unlikely) - reproducible builds so community members can verify+sign the binary hashes
  • It is unlikely that all features will be implemented, at which point the unfinished features will roll into the next quarter.

During an attempted trade on Agoradesk, I came across ads requiring "clean" coins. Some traders are now demanding coins you're trading originate from "reputable exchanges"--you know, the censored & surveilled ones. Yet these traders don't disclose where THEIR coins come from. To many of us, this was fine as it aligns with the fungibility ethos of crypto. But now the anti-fungibility, censorship, financial-surveillance-under-the-guise-of-protection-culture is creeping into "pro-privacy," "no KYC" P2P platforms. And the platforms are sanctioning it!

Goes to prove the use case of Monero. Monero is the only crypto that acts like cash--even better since serial numbered cash isn't truly fungible. Soon, the crypto world will be divided into two classes of crypto: state-surveilled crypto... and Monero.

U.S. I've bought monero before but the landscape was vastly different so I'm coming at this new. After trying to find a good hot wallet, I settled on cake (used to use MyMonero) and I want to avoid KYC. I do not have any other coin so LocalMonero is really off the table. The price to do CashApp, Mail, etc is usuallt inflated from the current listing price. I'd still not like to be fucked on price. Plus, I really don't want to do by mail at the moment. I can buy crypto on cake, using a credit card. This, ideally, would be bought using a masked card so merchant does not know my credentials; I've searched this sub pretty extensively but I get mixed opinions and some haven't been directly answered.

  1. I've seen LTC mentioned as the default to exchange to XMR. Why?
  2. I would be linking the exchange coin to me if I bought using a card but I would want to use LocalMonero to exchange to XMR. To clarify, this would effectively give me anon xmr/xmr not linked to me?
  3. Does Cake allow prepaid cards? Ex. Visa. I do not the basics of securing your crypto(cold wallets) but any advice on this would be helped. Haven't done much research on this as I don't have any to secure.

As per the title, had a little ltc on there I wanted to swap for xmr, hit the convert tab and xmr is no longer an option.

So no more converting to alternate assets. Buy/sell still works for now however slowly getting there, be interesting to see the effect on value with more and more volume moving to p2p.

Hi,

As Binance is about to delist Monero I just want to say how much this community deserves a bright future beyond the manipulation of paper monero.

For those who remember how it all started be sure I didn't leave Monero. To me the discrepancy between Monero's technology and the way it's currently treated looks like a final test of this universe to ensure only the worthy remain before granting Monero the recognition it deserves.

Exchanges are now filled with useless cryptos that nobody will want in couple years. Once the average person understands crypto better exchanges will beg to list Monero.

Is paying a premium on LocalMonero still the only way to get XMR without buying other cryptos from a KYC exchange and swapping for it?

I'd really like to get some more, especially after this dip caused by the Binance delisting, but I don't use Coinbase anymore and it seems like the limited options for acquiring Monero are just a major pain in the ass no matter which way you slice it.

I'd also like to start using XMR as a p2p currency more often but the difficult process of acquiring it tends to discourage me from ever wanting to spend it once I finally have it in my possession.

Is there an easier alternative yet that I'm not aware of?

The most consistent mistake I've seen with casual Monero peeps, is the notion that chainhopping will give you privacy. Short answer: It probably wont. At least not the way you're thinking about doing it, PseudoAnon.

I get it. You need [cuckcoin] to pay some pleb that doesnt take XMR. Your best chance to maintain privacy, is to already have a fat stash of XMR that you use regularly. Swap into [cuckcoin] from that wallet/stash.

(You do have a nice fat stash of Monero don't you, Anon?)

AFTER swapping from XMR, top up your stash at IRREGULAR intervals/amounts. DO NOT immediately top up your XMR wallet for the exact same amount. This significantly reduces attack vectors like correlating: amounts, timings, and the probablistic weaknesses with ring signatures.

Exchanges, swap services, multisig arbitration based swaps, wallets with a swap provider... ANY central coordinator of bids/offers (possibly even atomic swaps)... Assume theyre sharing data with chain analysis. They might not be, but you need to mitigate the risk in case they are.
