News apart, why did I always assume that Auschwitz was in Austria?! I guess I'm just dumb

Auschwitz is the German version of the name of Polish town Oświęcim where the camp is located. Poles and many other people too specifically says "Oświęcim" when it's about town and "Auschwitz" when it's about camp, to signify who's responsible for the camp.

Also fun fact, the Polish name means "we will sanctify" in archaic Polish
