So the jizz of it is that the fanbase is toxic and Linus tried to do well and shout him out
He did adress it in a WAN show (here) at the ~8:40 minute mark, but he's still responsible for the original video. Besides, only a fraction of his viewers watch the WAN show, anything he says there will remain unseen by most.
Every person with a larger online following is absolutely partly responsible to their fans behavior when it happens en masse. Especially if your audience is partly kids. They look up to you and you profit from them consuming your content so it's your moral responsibility to direct them in the right direction.
