I sort of suspect that there is going to be a wild period of time when the civilian cops in the US start doing some messed up stuff, but they still have bodycams and there are still mechanisms where the footage can go up on YouTube, for an excited commentator to be emoting about how this entitled illegal immigrant learned her lesson the hard way.
Trump LOVES Duterte. If that's any indicator to how things are likely to go. For a small second I was like, no it can't get that bad. But ... no, it can. There's already been a handful of videos of proud boys dressing up as ICE.
And why wouldn't they? All it takes is one person somewhere to mumble something about "deputized," and turn 'em loose. What would stop them?
Absolutely nothing. Sigh.
