Much like the "uhygur genocide", when nobody goes for it, they can't admit it was a lie. Just that things are different than they said.
There was also the totally unbiased and completely trustworthy South Korean intelligence agency claiming they totally have proof but ~~she goes to a different school~~ they can't show it to you sadly
