This cannot be overstated. I live in Texas and was recently a part of jury selection, and the number of people who have had or are currently getting kickbacks from oil companies was shockingly high. They don't just influence politicians, they influence the average voter simply by paying them a lot of money to scout on their property or operate a well.
They have so much influence in Texas, it's astounding.
