What about addiction? It’s not 100% but very possible

[-] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 5 points 5 days ago

Being on porn sites all day is healthier than being on social media all day.

I mean, blood pressure and prostate health alone...

[-] Irelephant@lemm.ee 0 points 5 days ago

Sure, but thats not from porn, thats from jerking off. You should be able to do that without porn.

[-] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago

And you can live on food without spices.

[-] Irelephant@lemm.ee 1 points 5 days ago

Sure, but spices aren't actively detrimental to your mental health.

It is. You're delusional if you think it isn't.

Lois Griffin hentai won't change your biochemistry more than salt.

D'ya still think it'll put hair on your palms, and make Jesus cry?

Grow up.

[-] Irelephant@lemm.ee 1 points 4 days ago

I don't think it will do any of those things, but overconsuming porn can have more damaging effects than just plain social media.

I'm not saying its neccesarily bad though.

I’m not saying its neccesarily bad though.

You just did. You called me delusional for saying otherwise. It's been the central conceit of this conversation.

[-] Irelephant@lemm.ee 1 points 4 days ago

Thats not what I meant, sorry if it came off as otherwise.
Your original comment was:

Being on porn sites all day is healthier than being on social media all day.

Which is definitely false. Porn, occasionally and controllably, is fine! But constant - and regular - porn viewing is definetely harmful.

[-] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

Not fuckin' really, no. Except in basically the same way as any media addiction, like doomscrolling on any safe-for-work hellsite.

[-] Irelephant@lemm.ee 1 points 4 days ago

While both are addictive, porn is far more addictive, and it give short term dopamine spikes, which makes everything else seem less interesting or enjoyable, again, this is only regular watching.

[-] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

Rates of doomscrolling versus... habitual gooning... suggest that you're recycling some moral-panic conclusions without re-examining the science. Antipatterns have made the disorganized attachment of places like this far more common and far more popular than pornography.

If dopamine's all you're worried about, worry more about mobile games than the naked fanart of their characters.

[-] Irelephant@lemm.ee 1 points 4 days ago

For the dopamine thing, while crappy mobile games do have an impact, its not as severe as porn.

Sourced from the vicinity of your pelvis.

What about it? Hell of a lot lore likely with caffeine and we don't make you age verify when a kid buys coffee or tea or soda. If addiction occurs, that's the jurisdiction of medical professionals and the person's support network.

OK, so we should require everyone to present ID for anything that could be addictive? That's some awful "save the kids" BS. Screw that!

If you want to prevent your kids from watching porn, cool, do that. But don't force everyone else to ID themselves because you're too lazy to actually parent your kids.
