MODERATORS
I never quite liked it as much as 1 or even 3, but it was genre defining back when it was new. People give a lot of praise for what Half-Life did for FPS, but Quake 2 did a lot of what Half-Life made popular, before Half-Life (by a year). It was also the first game, IIRC, to introduce reloading as a mechanic.
