*PM says Trump is trying to make it easier to annex Canada — but it won't work *

An unbowed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Tuesday that Canada will hit back hard at the U.S. after President Donald Trump launched a North American trade war by slapping devastating 25 per cent tariffs on virtually all Canadian goods.

Speaking to reporters at a news conference on Parliament Hill, Trudeau said Trump is trying to prompt "a total collapse of the Canadian economy" because he thinks that will "make it easier to annex us."

But Trudeau said that will never happen because "when it comes to defending our great nation, there is no price we all aren't willing to pay."

Trudeau said Canada will not back down from a fight in the face of "completely bogus and completely unjustified" trade action that has the potential to ruin bilateral relations and prompt job losses, economic devastation and higher inflation on both sides of the border.

Trump is erratic and undisciplined and the whole MAGA movement is regressive, radical and dangerous and I am sure Lebensraum has some resonance with them. But there is obviously shit going on with the rhetoric on Canada and Greenland that points to control of the Arctic as being the driving issue. It possibly goes beyond the current executive and is some insane branch of long term US strategic thought. That suggests they probably only want 2 or 3 mostly uninhabited northern provinces plus Greenland under US colonial rule. Sucks to be indigenous (again).

Not saying those provinces should be given up under intimidation. But I doubt if even someone as stupid as Trump wants to deal with repressing a resistance movement on the US border. It seems more likely this is one of his famous "deals" (perhaps more accurately shakedown).

Never entirely stopped, my dude. FN folk are overrepresented in the prison system. And systemic racism is still absolutely rampant nation wide.

Indigenous man and Granddaughter(12) handcuffed by Vancouver PD for "fraud" at BMO while trying to open an account.

First Nation demands OPP officer fired after allegedly leaving man on remote northern Ontario highway.

The Indigenous people killed by Canada’s police.

Starlight Tours

Thunder Bay, and it's habit of hate crime against indigenous people

Study finds search for missing Indigenous women hampered by police apathy.

Canadaland Investigates - There Is A Town In North Ontario | Thunder Bay Chapter 1 This is an incredibly well made, gripping series of podcast episodes. It's also fucking heartbreaking.

This is just the stuff I remembered well enough to find on Google on the first attempt at search query wording.

You're going to notice that basically every single thing I linked involves the police. And sure, ACAB, but you don't have an issue as glaringly massive as the racism against First Nations people in Canada is, without it coming from the top down. If there was an actual willingness to change, to make First Nations people equal citizens of Canada, then this shit would be clamped the fuck down on. There would be proper investigation into accusations against police officers who do things like Starlight Tours. There would be repercussions for police departments who had taken reports of missing indigenous women, and then never investigated it. And maybe, just maybe the government would have kept their end of signed treaties.

Things have certainly improved since the days of residential schools, the 60s sweep, etc. But it's far from being a fair play to First Nations people.

Same around the world. When they say they want to deal more harshly with youth offenders in Queensland, Australia, they are overwhelmingly indigenous otherwise there would be more outrage. First we create the problems then we create the "solutions" which just create more problems. I hope it is getting better. A few years ago we had the PM giving an official apology. Now we have some politicians refusing to stand in front of the aboriginal flag. Its a huge WTF. I don't know what their brain damage is.

I should clarify that it could be Inuit lands that Trump may be seeking to control in case other indigenous people are wondering what the fuck I am talking about. Sorry.

We'll make a Canadian of you yet ;)
You're ok buddy. There's currently the whole gamut of Canadian FN currently living (i.e. - not necessarily on reserve) in the Northern Territories.
2021 census data, Indigenous population by Territory.

There were also more than just Inuit historically living in the North West Territories.

And Ontario:

Prior to contact with the European settlers, our Nations and Peoples – the Anishinaabek, Mushkegowuk, Onkwehonwe, and Lenape – have thrived since time immemorial in what is now known as the province of Ontario on Turtle Island (North America).

And all the other provinces too, just need to get to bed and don't have the energy to dig up more examples.

Yeah, lots of very close parallels between treatment of Australian and Canadian indigenous people's.

Yeah this seems like the most likely thing. That and natural resources they want from us.
