Russian authorities have chosen a bizarre way to express their gratitude to the mothers of soldiers killed in the war in Ukraine, gifting them meat grinders and flowers for International Women’s Day.

It does. For example the battle of Verdun was also called Верде́нская мясорубка (The meat grinder of Verdun)
