It's not world news over there, it's world "news". The admins and mods of lemmy.ml will allow all manner of, and even post some themselves, pure Russian propaganda over there, it won't be removed and this user won't be banned (they continuously post a bunch of this crap).

Join the lemmy.ml boycott today! No posts, comments or upvotes on comms that are on the lemmy.ml instance!

ML and the devs gonna kill Lemmy in the cradle, somebody needs to just fork the project already.

Yeah, I'm hoping there's a s gradual adoption of PieFed over time, and with that at least an incentive for Lemmy to keep up with features over time

[-] TheFrirish@jlai.lu 2 points 5 days ago

I want to make my own piefed instance as the ones currently up are just way too far from me but I'm as so somewhat attached to my French instance.

[-] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 3 points 6 days ago

Any tips on piefed instance to check out?

Does it work like Lemmy/mbib.

[-] monarch@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

Bit late but piefed is great once they have an app this account will probably die for my piece one. The combining of cross posts makes everything feel more active.

[-] humiddragonslayer@lemm.ee 2 points 5 days ago

I've been quite enjoying !movies@piefed.social, the main contributor regularly posts a writeup of various movies.

And yes, it's pretty indistinguishable from the Lemmy point of view as far as I've seen

[-] missingno@fedia.io 9 points 6 days ago

Come to Mbin. The great thing about ActivityPub is that we don't even need Lemmy itself.

[-] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 3 points 6 days ago

Yeah when I entered fedi after shopping around kbin seemed the design for reddit style experience imho

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago

Yea, but unfortunately it's unlikely to happen because it's written in Rust, which is a difficult language so there aren't many devs to tackle it compared to other languages.

What we can do though is to call for wider defederation, there's precedent because so many instances defed from the rest of the Tankie Triad, we should be petitioning those admins to simply treat .ml the same regardless of how big of a "support hub" it is for the Lemmy server software or how many "big" comms (by subscriber count, by MAUs, only one .ml comm breaks the top 15) they have

[-] eric5949@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

As long as the devs are running ML Lemmy is going to have a tankie problem. You can defederate all you want, if you're still using their project ML and therefore tankies are going to be the face.

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago

Not necessarily, lemmy.ml can only be the face of Lemmy if we (the wider Fediverse) allow it to be. Because the truth is, most people do not care about who the devs of an open source project are.

Many do currently because a good portion of us lemmings are technical people to begin with, but the less technical folks coming from Reddit aren't going to go to the GitHub or go-to Dessalines wonderful essays page.

But what those people do care about, is what is visible to them through their day to day use, and wide defederation will absolutely take care of that problem

[-] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 7 points 6 days ago

this is why i think lemmy ultimately exists as a proof of concept and not as a final landing place for threaded conversations on the fediverse. there are things i like about it better than other alternatives for this sort of communication, but ultimately any communication solution is going to be designed around how the developers view human interaction, and i'm not much a fan of how dessalines and neutomic see humanity.

[-] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 days ago

Wish you could block entire instances from interacting with your instance

[-] eric5949@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

You can if you run your own instance, I've done that before and it's not too hard.

What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.
