What can I say, I like to watch dumpster fires

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 27 points 2 hours ago

Hm I wonder what the divorce rate is like when broken down along political views

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 0 points 3 hours ago

I'm not going to pay premium for a device that will break if it get exposed to dust.

From what I understand the Samshit Foldables have achieved a dust resistance rating.

But in general, I think the dust problem is rather overblown. Just exposing it to dust isn't going to kill it IME, if you were like a construction worker or other industry where you're dealing with a very dusty environment to begin with then yea. But the average person should be fine with the occasional light dusty environment

Believe me, I'm not rich either lol

I buy phones like millions of others in the US, from the carrier on a EIP

So its more like ~50/month for a regular top tier flagship or an extra 25 (75/month) for a foldy

That's true, but Google Pixels are also one of the few remaining US brands that allows you to somewhat freely unlock the BL

So custom roms can easily be had, in fact GrapheneOS is one that specifically targets Pixels in general

It's the 2nd biggest reason I didn't jump onto the Foldy bandwagon with Samshit (#1 being how damn narrow the cover screen is)

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

That's true, but software is software, it can be modified by end users to suit their needs, especially on Pixel foldables which are one of the few remaining US brands that still somewhat freely allow you to unlock the bootloader.

So in that case with an unlockable BL, one could even flash a custom ROM that fixes any issues

Just because you don't hear her name doesn't mean she isn't putting in the work

This is about a politician supposedly running for a presidential office, that's exactly what it means. If people aren't hearing your name this close to an election you aren't really trying.

But I can’t figure out a reasonable security architecture to use. I thought I had one, but I failed to account for VM jackpotting attacks. And it feels like it takes me a month to do what a competent ops person can do in a day.

You're overthinking it, just secure things enough that you're ahead of the script kiddies automated scan tools (which isn't a lot tbh)

The people with actual real skill don't care about you, they'd rather go after juicy targets, like companies or politicians or rich people

The TC video covers that, and also use powder over gel, not only is it more economical but far superior. I forgot exactly, but 2 of the main cleaning agents can't coexist in a liquid suspension so all gels have to pick which one. They can coexist in dry form so with powder you get the best of both worlds

It's too darn expensive for what it does

It's a phone that folds in half, the tech has been in development for something like 15 years. I swear I've been hearing about folding/flexible displays at CES since like 2004

After years and years of complaints of nothing but stagnant candy bar designs we get something new and fresh and now it's "too expensive" LMAO

Don't listen to that right-wing idiot Dave Ramsey. He says stupid shit all the time, like never ever go into debt for anything ever, which is just unrealistic.

For example, according to him it's preferable for you to get a 500$ clunker that you will undoubtedly have to continuously repair over a reasonably priced reliable used car that you take a small loan out for. There's a middle ground with debt, even credit cards.

For something that I had to import from Germany because the RGB version wasn't being sold in the states at the time and was supposedly supposed to die within <2 years because the RGB made it run too hot, it lasted 5 years and 72 TBs written before a random power outage took it down. Even then, it was still able to allow me to dd it to another drive without issue

RIP :(

I've been on the fence on the Fold 2 ever since the aspect ratios/screen sizes were revealed.

On one hand, I really like the 0G folds short but wide passport form factor, it's the second biggest reason I held off getting one of those really narrow Galaxy Folds (biggest being, it's still a SamSuck lol) and the Fold 2s upcoming changes means the unfolded form is going to be pretty much a square

But on the other hand, I think it would be better for one of the biggest uses I use my Fold unfolded for: Remoting into various desktops, since the Fold 2 will be more like 2 8/9 regular pros next to each other it should allow for a bit better "widescreen" when rotated (I like to have the desktop screen on the top and the OSK on the bottom "laptop style") and even though it's a square it should be bigger overall

What are your guys thoughts on the Fold 2? Are you upgrading or waiting and seeing what the Fold 3 will look like (and the TSMC 3nm Tensor)

The tree is an adjoining neighbors backyard with large branches that come pretty close to my house (Though there is a sizable gap, if it comes down under the wrong wind direction...) and are actually touching another neighbors roof.

If it is unhealthy, is it recoverable? I'd rather not have them cut the whole thing down (it provides a lot of shade for my backyard (well, when it's healthy that is lmao)) Should I talk with them directly (I don't really know them, at all) or let the city know?
