At some point I'd rather just carry a power bank when I go camping or something instead of carrying a huge phone daily

I've never tested this hypothesis, but I would guess that a big-ass battery would remain useful after years of wear while a normal battery would need to be almost constantly plugged in. It's one thing to plug in a power bank now and then, but if it effectively becomes a wired device that's too much of a pain.

I've bought a phone following this theory.
After 3 years, the USB port wore out and didn't charge anymore. And after 4, the phone got concerningly hot during wireless charging.
So yeah, the battery lasts longer, but phones aren't designed for a long life in general.

I still have phones whose USB ports were not toast or did not get hot while charging. But, they do drop down in not being able to hold a charge. I guess it depends on usage and the OEM in question.
