funneling their salaries to Kim Jong Un

Like... Literally why? No doubt Un could command the state to do just about literally anything for himself. What purpose could these salaries serve him?

Giving far too much credit to the article here, but maybe they're using the USD for some purpose through shell companies or something? But the amount of money from even a few thousand worker salaries would still pale in comparison to what they probably generate doing their legendary crypto heists that they've done throughout the years

I imagine that may very well be the case, but that means that the salaries are going to the state, not to Kim Jong Un. The subheading makes it sound like these people are his personal slaves

yeah, i was adjusting for the fact that Kim Jong Un and the DPRK state are synonyms in western media

My immediate assumption is just that these are migrant workers working in call center sort of things in China (which is what the previous "North Koreans secretly working for US companies!!!11!!??1!" headlines have always been about), and the "funneling money to Kim Jong Un" is just the dipshit racist way of saying they pay taxes on income earned while abroad.
