Always ask for two keys. Have them hold one for a made-up name. Have guest use made-up name.
I would say its weird how people who have the balls to try this shit can be so amateurish, but I've witnessed some real winners out there, especially while travelling.

Still better to know that and deal with it up-front than when your lady-of-the-night is already in the lobby.
