That's pretty rhetoric, but what does 'freedom' actually mean here? Does a cockroach care that it's in a 100 gallon glass tank or a dumpster in a city? It's easy to espouse 'freedom' but are you really suggesting feral cats are living better, happier lives than housecats?
As you point out, even theoretically intelligent humans are perfectly happy to throw 'freedom' out the window for all kinds of reasons. This black and white attitude is just naive.
