there are right wing instances?

[-] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 36 points 1 week ago

I'm not entirely shocked. They get kicked off mainstream sites regularly, they need somewhere for their echo chamber to exist.

Ah, so hilarious chaos IS a right wing instance?

Let’s take a look at HC’s local front page right now:

• First post is pro-Elon, uses “woke” as a derogatory term

• Second post is anti-science transphobia

• Third post is the same story as the first post, says a “hate crime” was committed by the “woke” person, article is on Breitbart [EDIT: fixed a typo I made here]

• Fourth post is ok, fairly normal, but posted by an avid poster for the site named Donald Musk

• Fifth post follows the suit of the fourth post

• Sixth post is transphobia for sports, article is on Breitbart

• Seventh post follows the suit of the fourth and fifth post

• Eighth post is by a news bot, headline says Israel is gonna keep doing what they do

• Ninth post is ok, just a banal joke

• Tenth post paints Tesla as a victim of violence, article is on Breitbart

• Eleventh post is saying most voters prefer moderate Democrats over “radical” AOC & Sanders, article is on Breitbart

• Twelfth post is anti-science transphobia

• Thirteenth post is by a news bot about Canada’s Carney’s plan (I don’t know enough about Canada’s politics to know where this guy stands on things)

• Fourteenth post is by a news bot about Anti-Trump rallies, headline seems politically neutral

• Fifteenth post is anti-science, pro-Trump, COVID conspiracy theories, article is on Breitbart

• Sixteenth post is ok, just a joke

• Seventeenth post is by an admin trying to save face by soliciting mods for a token leftwing community on their site, the only volunteer is one of the above posters of anti-science transphobia

• Eighteenth post is in German about some technology?

• Nineteenth post is by news bot about US attacking Yemen

Thank you for doing the dirty work

[-] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago

Yep, sounds about right. Thank you for your service!

Seems like a bot could do this job efficiently. Kinda like Reddit’s N-word bot

[-] felsiq@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago

I’ve been completely unable to tell if they’re right wing or just a bunch of edgy 14 year olds, and I’ve been kinda reluctant to block them till I figure out which

[-] PDFuego@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Does it matter? If the edgy 14 year olds aren't contributing anything you consider worth your time then block them anyway.

[-] felsiq@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Oh it definitely doesn’t matter, I’ve been ready to block them since the second post I saw from that instance. It’s just morbid curiosity stringing me along at this point lmao

The first "couple"? I see the porn subs that we defederate because the admin doesn't want to risk legal liability. There's the one tanky instance that they defederated before later deciding not to defederate tanky instances. There's the spam Reddit resharing instance. There's the two instances mentioned in this LW post, which seems to indicate it's about illegal content, not political alignment. That just leaves exploding heads, which was right-wing, but gave up hosting at all after everyone defedded them, and hilariouschaos.com. That one, I don't know, so I'll take your word that it's right-wing. But that only leaves one, not a couple.

[-] Squorlple@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

EH & HC (considered by many to be EH under a new name) are the two I was referring to. Tanky subs were an afterthought on my part.

[-] Gronk@aussie.zone 16 points 1 week ago

Im surprised the stupid fucks can still operate a computer/phone let a lone running an instance.

[-] BeardedBlaze@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Tech bros are majority magats...

[-] BillyTheKid@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

I've worked at FAANGs. Most of the people I worked with there didn't subscribe to western politics. Just my experience.

[-] OsrsNeedsF2P@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

People are still afraid to publicly (internally?) support Republicans, even though our CEO has endorsed them and we've hired some right-wing politicians for various roles

(That or truly very few people are Republican at FAANG)

[-] boolean_sledgehammer@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

The fact that you don't know about them says the system is working.
