The realization is that it was never about political partisanship in the first place. It was always this psycho-sexual libidinal phenomenon that philosophical liberalism cannot actually deal with so it invents things like political partisanship and "economic rationality" and "single-issue voters" to explain away the reality that human society works in a fundamentally different way than liberalism thinks it does.
