We want them to get used to the harness while they are young. It was surprisingly easy. They ignored the leash completely as soon as they were outside and saw interesting things.

We started as well with a leash when ours was a kitten, now (at 4 years) he’s completely used to it. He even sits to let it put on 😊

Is it hopeless for my 3 yo cat to accept a harness?

She never got out so now that I have an accessible garden I would like to try to teach her to use a leash and harness.

I think it depends on the cat tbh. Mine were from the streets, so I think there was a lot "done with this shit, never again" going on.
