Donald Trump's administration is "actively looking at" suspending habeas corpus - the right of a person to challenge their detention in court - one of the US president's top aides has said.

Stephen Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff, told reporters on Friday that the US Constitution allowed for the legal liberty to be suspended in times of "rebellion or invasion".

This is kinda funny to me for a reason. Confederate apologists support Trump, and one of their biggest "gotcha!" plays for villifying Abraham Lincoln was his suspension of Habeas Corpus. They love going "Lincoln was a tyrant for suspending our rights when half the country literally seceded and attacked forts." But if Trump does it to imprison progressives peacefully protesting the genocide in Gaza, or marching for their civil rights, those same "rebels" will lick the boot.
