I know this isn't a switch to EU away from the US, but strengthening our relationship with EU can only be good IMO.
Probably naive of me but lining up behind the US makes me extraordinarily uncomfortable.
If we actually needed some support it's pretty much guaranteed that Trump would throw us under the bus.
How could this perspective be naive? The fuck?
The Christian MAGAzi Taliban have already threatened or extorted Ukraine, Canada, Greenland and Panama; all within their first 3 months. They're more likely to invade Australia and claim our resources than defend us from China or any aggressor.
The elephant in the room is that most of Australias military and intelligence is intertwined with US technology, and any transition away is a gargantuan task, but anything less than removing our dependence on the US is a treasonous attack on national security; a national death sentence, long term. We should be doing everything we can to ally with the EU and Canada, who have always shared our values far more than America, and collectively shift our military apparatus away from US tech and influence.
