"Oh, this is calamity! Calamity! Oh no, he's on the floor!"
Welcome to MoG!
Meanwhile On Grad
Documenting hate speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse. Memes are welcome!
What is a Tankie?
Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.
(caution of biased source)
Basic Rules:
Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.
Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.
Apologia — (Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.
Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.
Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.
Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.
You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.
What were the comments? Criticism of the CCP often veers towards sino-phobia so I'd be curious how much of a stretch was being made to warrant a ban.
Probably from this thread https://lemmy.world/post/30630208
Its the latest thread that cowbee commented in before getting temp banned.
They probably reported the comments that they replied to.
Those comments have technically true criticisms of China (as in the state), but it gives off a very weird vibe, reminds me of SerpentZA kind of.
Like its a valid criticizm, but the wording/phrasing sound sort of a right-wing feel to it, you know what I mean?
Oh, this shit is great. You can see the contradictions.

Nothing screams "the public has genuine political control" like having a single political party which unilaterally bans a cartoon bear because it was compared the head of state.
The comments they replied to don't really seem that way, but elsewhere in that thread looks like the usual type of stuff that .ml communities would Rule 1 pretty quickly. But I'm sure Cowbee knows that's allowed in that instance and community and the mods know he knows too.
Yea I should have clarified. I mean this comment:
https://lemmy.world/post/30630208/17430208
Highlighted the parts I feel those bad vibes.
So they said Chinese people live in poverty, which is not entirely false, but it almost felt like the "Chinese people are peasants" racist rhetoric that JD Vance used. I'm not saying that's is necessarily the commenter's intent, but it feels to me that way.
Then "everything is a scam". It would sound a lot better if they said "the government doesn't do anything about the scammers". Because this user's wording sound like he's blaming the people. Like those scam call centers from India, people in youtube comments make "jokes" like: "if you hear someone with an Indian accent, its 100% a scammer", like that's not even true, legit customer service is now outsourced to India, so like that just sounded racist. I feel the same way about the "everything (in China) is a scam" comment.
"Nation sport to harass others" This part feels very wrong. What is this person implying? Feel lile they're saying its what Chinese people do, which it isn't, ultra-nationalists do not represent the entirety of the Chinese population.
The the user made some joke about reverting back to European monarchy because "if CCP dictatorship is so good, why not try European dictatorship where its actually better" 🧐 (Feels a bit like a subtle "If we're doing dictatorship anyways, we Europeans can do a dictatorship better")
"Chine didn't built stuff, its from Western Tech"
Okay "China" might not have built it, but the Chinese People definitely worked on it with their hard labor. As for the so called "IP Theft", like calm down, that's just espionage, espionage is as old as human civilization.
By this logic, Europe "stole" gunpowder from China during colonialism to make firearms to use use against Imperial China.
Disclaimer: I have Chinese ancestry in me, I live in the US where I've encountered racism, so perhaps I'm a bit more sus about potential racism. I'm anti-CCP, but not "anti-China".
Yeah I think the bad vibes there is the implicit racism from that user.
