It's anime plot.
Akagi I think
Definitely written as if it is a reference to something, but if it's Akagi, it doesn't happen in the part adapted to the anime.
Akagi also isn't Chinese (and if he goes to China, it's not in the anime)
Possibly later but Akagi didn’t go down like that iirc. If anything it was more bad ass.
