United Kingdom
General community for news/discussion in the UK.
Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.
Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
“You’re being evicted so that young fighting age male refugees"
We need those, right? Not those plebs hanging about town.
"who are escaping war in France"
War, in France 🤔
"can have somewhere safe to live, who, as far as our government is concerned, have priority over you … VOTE REFORM!”
Em, no? It's not safe in most parts of the UK and what we need is the police and councils enforcing them not some nutjobs who thinks there's a war in France right now.
The article is quoting a ridiculous comment someone left and exposing how it's stupid.
However, that comment itself was a parody
I think the "war in France" thing is an argument that the illegal immigrants coming across in boats from France are abusing the asylum system to pick and choose what country they end up in, instead of actually seeking safety. As if you were seeking safety, you wouldn't have an issue being in france.
