That's not hoe star trek works. If it was on a screen, its canon. No exceptions and you are required to do incredible me tal gymnastics to make up how that makes sense at all and then write a really bad book about it. Thars how it works.
multiple time travel universes are canon so good star trek can just be the prime timeline
they always looked like that, you just didn't see it before
For Roddenberry's faults, this is an underrated approach to changing things, especially in long-running television. Sometimes you can have a Watsonian explanation, but sometimes a change just needs to happen and skipping the plot shenanigans makes it happen faster.
