I hate that any criticism of Discovery online is just "anti-Woke" b.s.

At least it proved that the only way Stacey Abrams can win a national election is in speculative fiction
Ive seen plenty since the show started that was just about the show being pretty bad.
the finale of Lower Decks subtly hinted that Discovery took place in an alternate universe
Thank God, they're already laying the groundwork
JJ kinda did it first with Lens Flare Trek.
Strange New Worlds definitely laid some groundwork with the Temporal Wars arc though.
except he blew up regular timeline romulus as a throwaway. i hope he never works again and dies broke
Not really - it just showed that an alternate universe had Disco Klingons. Which doesn't mean only the AU had Disco Klingons.
My personal headcanon says that any major variations in the appearance of Klingons over time is non-diagetic or Doylean.
That's not hoe star trek works. If it was on a screen, its canon. No exceptions and you are required to do incredible me tal gymnastics to make up how that makes sense at all and then write a really bad book about it. Thars how it works.
multiple time travel universes are canon so good star trek can just be the prime timeline
they always looked like that, you just didn't see it before
For Roddenberry's faults, this is an underrated approach to changing things, especially in long-running television. Sometimes you can have a Watsonian explanation, but sometimes a change just needs to happen and skipping the plot shenanigans makes it happen faster.
jj's films have to go too
They're just going to come up with time travel excuses to keep rebooting TOS forever, so nothing will ever have to build upon whatever is going on at the tail end of the timeline.
Nothing ever gets decanonized in Star Trek. Not even Giant Spock.
I never finished those and I'm glad I didnt.
I also hated Lower Decks. Picard season 1 was better than that shit, and I accept the fan hatred this take will bring me
I was with you on the first line, but damn, that second one came in hot. I really liked lower decks.
It's too much if a tonal shift for me. People are getting thrown around by deadly monsters while others crack jokes about it and flirt in front of thrm. I might have found it more fun if it wasn't canon. Also it was more nostalgia-bait than picard with 500 spot-the-references every episode
It definitely almost never moves beyond paying homage and doing references. I liked it, it was fun. But there was also a lot of potential just laying on the table.
Yes, I 100% agree with you on all points. I guess I was just glad to finally be recognized for being a tng fan, since the tos fans get so much service.
I also hated Lower Decks.
star trek: rick and morty
For what it's worth, I agree. I couldn't stand lower decks. It leaned too hard into comedy, and I'm even less forgiving of bad comedy than sci-fi. In general, I'm pretty bored of the reverential nature of these Treks. Obviously, I have strong nostalgia for the old shows, but I'd rather they just let them die and revive the spirit, rather than the named characters.
maybe cbs/discovery will sell the brand at some point, not sure if there’s a time limit for their ownership deal, feels like they just got it to get people onto their streaming service and are treating it like a generic sci-fi action franchise
Romulans are gone
To be fair that one is J.J. Abrams fault with his first star trek movie.
I’d rather de-canonise the silly Dominion War and founders entirely. And all of prodigy. Yet here we are
TBF they inherited the Romulan Supernova plot from the movies. If they were going to embrace that I'd have rathered they told it properly instead of alluding to it all the time (prodigy season 2), or picking up after what could have been a compelling story. What's worse is they keep setting things up and never paying them off - Borgati says there's a big threat out there, ok tell that story - no. Burnham solves the burn and finds a butt load of dilithium - cool lets see them rebuild the federation - no. Here's a back door pilot for a series with the Enterprise G on a 5 year mission and Picard's son is picking up Q trial - no. Here's a setup for the continuing missions of the Ceritos under jack ransom - no.
Finish a damn story.
