For some interesting perspective on how much computing has evolved: the original iMac was released in 1998, 27 years ago. 27 years before that was 1971 and the brand new exciting machine then was the Kenbac-1, the world's first personal computer.
And 27 years before that was 1944, when IBM delivered the Harvard Mark I... which John von Neumann immediately employed to simulate the implosion design which would be used in the first atomic bombs.
