3. No spam or reposts + limit off topic comments
Discussion is healthy.
However, spamming posts will be removed. Reposts will be removed with the exception of a repost becoming the main hub for discussion on that topic.

4. Post must have Oregon explicitly involved

5. Educate don’t attack
No mocking, demeaning, flamebaiting, purposeful antagonizing, trolling, hateful language, false accusation or allegation, or backseat moderating is allowed. Don’t resort to ad hominem attacks against another user or insult other people, examples of violations would be going after the person rather than the stance they take.

In general, he is a super solid rep. I would be ok with him doing what he does (apart from the Israel vote thing). But if we can replace him with another candidate that is at least as good as he has been, but 30+ years younger, I’m gonna go ahead and vote for the younger candidate. Experience counts, but you do tend to get diminished returns at his age.
As "super solid" as he is, imagine if he spent time to find an up and coming progressive at the local level and really pushed for his running publicly.
But nope. He wants power. Like Pelosi. Like Schumer. Like so many party Democrats that don't have the stones to actually resist Trump and the Republican agenda because they'd rather hold onto what little influence they have now than actually change the country.
That would certainly be a bonus that he stumped for younger progressives, though he has a pretty full plate. There are not many as vocal as Wyden when it comes to consumer rights, privacy, repair laws etc….
Is his age holding him back from also going for the throat in our democracy’s death throes? I dunno. It’s probably the most important subject to keep laser-focused on, but I don’t classify him in the same orbit as pelosi or Schumer, both of which had their time and neither of which I particularly care for.
As far as representation goes, he stands among the better to best IMO, but yeah, I’m sure he could always improve, or elevate a suitable replacement.
At least he isn’t Fetterman
I don't know.. looking at the rest of the world, at least the places where things are going well, people seem to have enough experience at half his age. Learning history also helps, instead of having been there at the time
Sure, but history seems to beess than an afterthought nowadays for 2/3 of the country. If it wasn’t, trump would be in prison.
We all want this situation to land on its feet and to craft a better nation/government from it, we just have few tools (and too many conservative tools) to make overnight changes. I hope there is a suitable candidate come midterms to keep the pressure on and keep the voice of this state as loud as possible.
Isn’t he on the wrong side of a lot of computer privacy issues as well? I mean, it’s hard to find a politician not in the wrong side of that, but it still stands out when I otherwise agree with him on most issues. Would like to see him retire due to age personally, but he’ll have my vote again if he wins the primary.
No, the opposite. Wyden is often the only voice of reason in the Senate on issues of privacy. I think he has the most clear-eyed assessment of Big Tech, the Intelligence Community, and their interdependent relationship and myriad abuses, of anyone else alive at this point.
Oh, excellent. Maybe it’s just this issue then. I’ve voted for him multiple times now, and definitely consider him one of the better members of the senate.
