Ye Power Trippin' Bastards
749 readers
66 users here now
This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- YDM new - You Deserved More: The commenter thinks you got off too lightly.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless Mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.

MODERATORS
Because you posted a string of racist shit about Mexico and Africa.... Cry about it more loser.
Please enlighten us? Which countries can be trusted to govern themselves? Cuz it seems to be a pattern here of you thinking non-white people are incapable of governing themselves and need the firm hand of the west to intervene. You also seemed to imply that Trump was right to float the idea of invading Mexico because "their government doesn't do enough about the cartels".
Also I love how you jumped to attacking my mental health for doing the bare minimum of clicking your profile to see if you were just a clueless lib or had a pattern of racism. As a moderator it's kind of a thing I have to do to keep toxic bigots out of our communities and help those we are federated with keep theirs safe from assholes like you too.
Hopefully the good folks at db0 ban you too.
Yes I did insult you. I called you out for being a vile racist. If you do not want to be called a vile racist it's pretty easy to just stop being a vile racist.
Also my pronouns are right there next to my username so add intentional misgendering to your list of offences.
your wish is my command. I felt like I should've kept them around a little more, after the end of the thread to see where this goes, but might as well bite the bullet now. @bdonvr@thelemmy.club should probably deal with this on his side too.
I'm sorry you got misgendered, hopefully he gets banned from their home instance too.
Done, thanks,!
Really do appreciate this cross instance collaborative moderation and I feel like more of it would make lemmy as a whole a better place. I have seen other admins tell me not to ping them about behavior of their users outside their own instance which just strikes me as cowardice at best and tacit approval at worst.
As the fediverse grows we're gonna see a lot more influx of reactionary shit from people leaving reddit and bringing that baggage here.
We also have a Matrix chat for this kinda thing not sure if you were ever invited?
I was not but I would certainly join it. Be warned my matrix shows up as unverified because my old phone broke and I am unsure how to fix that.
I think I signed up with a protonmail account and I don't even remember which recovery email that is linked to. I should probably just make a new one.
My old desktop and my old phone died in the same week like a year ago.
Its mainly an admin room but we do have non admin observers, i can invite you; what's your matrix user?
@nakoichi:matrix.org
Already pinged the admin. Been seeing a lot of really shitty takes from that instance lately so not really hopeful. I appreciate you though.
Speaking of shitty takes, that @iii@mander.xyz person below that seemed to agree with them also got banned from hexbear for transphobia. Called HRT "self destructive".
Fascist birds of a feather etc.
:(
I don't have the time or moderation capacity to make a community as cool or comrade filled as HB, but if you see any really shitty takes, report them. We're a really small instance though
Sorry didn't mean it as a dig personally at you. I do know it's rough being a solo admin. We've had 5 years dealing with this shit so I appreciate the follow up and sorry for the friendly fire. I'll be sure to let you know if anyone else from your instance represents yall in an ill light. Usually I just mock people and move on, ban them from whatever communities I mod and inform our admins but this guy was literally just posting Nazi shit.
Not sure what your registration process is but it may be a good idea to set up a simple questionnaire to filter out the obvious ones like that. I know that is more workload for you in the short term but may pay off in the long term though.
Nah it was already a dumpster fire.
