I've seen a lot of fan theories about how his jolly roger having 3 skulls and the fact that Buggy said he doesn't sleep are hints he has some weird curse or something and now we have confirmation he was seemingly just a normal child that went through something really fucked up.
Calling himself "a worshipper of Davy Jones" seems like either a declaration to Imu that the Davy clan are still out there or that followers of Davy Jones as a figure has some sort of ideological opposition to Imu/WG
