Encounters with basic enemies are way harder than Hollow Knight, but I've found the platforming to be more fun and engaging. Especially after unlocking a move set that has a simpler downwards strike.
Oh damn, I wasn't planning on playing silksong, but I remember finding it so hard on PC to downward strike effectively. Dying to falling into the poison water while trying to bounce around was, in the end, more annoying than fun to me. If silksong makes it easier I'll be very happy and maybe play it
The user meant simpler relative to Hornet's default strike, which is arguably harder to hit with than the Knight's, at least if you're mainly above the enemy (it's a diagonal dive that commits you to shooting down a bit). There is a mechanic in the game that lets you basically change your whole basic attack set, and one of the three sets that I have found so far in the early game does actually have a way easier down aerial than the Knight's, and the other non-default one is I think deliberately identical to the Knight's.
That said, I think Hornet's default dive is much more fun and I've just stuck with her default moveset partly for that reason.
I think I have the same 2 other kits, and outside of some bosses, I like Hornet's default for the same reason! The dive is so much more fluid to pull off and is really exciting for that reason.
It feels a lot more generous with the timing and with the airtime you get with it. Plus you do a cute little flip now when you bounce so there's a lot more visual feedback that you're doing it right.
I'm still not sure how i feel about the different moves. It's really messing with my muscle memory
