I think the article's subject -- hypocrisy over cruelty and violence -- is a much bigger "problem with progressivism" than gatekeeping/purity tests. Let me ask you, is this a view you adopt because it makes it easier for you to avoid that cruelty and violence, or because it helps you excuse it?

Fair enough, but it could still be said that from a functional perspective, such a position serves more to rationalize abuse rather than motivate its avoidance. But I'm sure it's a coincidence you've come here to post what could be seen as carnist apologia, when really you just mean to criticize the circle jerking.
I just commented because I saw something in my feed
and it triggered your cognitive dissonance which you addressed through well-practiced defense mechanisms, which is fine, right up until the point where you inflict your coping on us. The lies we tell ourselves are not convincing to others.
