Networking

We definitely need to go with the old internet way of websites linking to other websites their authors like. I've been thinking for a while that it would be nice if Lemmygrad/hexbear, tankietube and matapacosdog all linked to each-other in places where everyone can see them. We should also link across languages whenever possible and link to similar communities in Spanish, Russian, Chinese or whichever else.

Also, we're really under-utilizing the fediverse's capability to have users and contents from completely different software interact directly with each-other.

We should also try to form a base of dedicated content creators who would create content specifically or at least primarily for our spaces, artists to post art, pictures and creative writing of lemmygrad, hexbear and matapacos, musicians and videasts to post music and videos on tankietube.

Even a simple webring might be a step up from what we're doing now. I'm sure we could get the admins of each site to at least put some links into the sidebar. A webring though, that's retro and cool!

[-] itspostingtime@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 6 days ago

I have nothing useful to add to these ideas but I just want to say yeah a webring would be cool and fun.

These are sick, and that marxism.org one is really tickling me for some reason. You just had these on deck? Also, what kind of dope name would our webring have?

You just had these on deck?

I’m a collector of old(-looking) commie/lefty websites and graphics 🫡

I like "The People's Web(ring)" and "USSWR, The United Socialist Sites Webring" mentioned below

I feel the People's Web could be a way to refer to the concept of the commie side of the indie/alt/personal/non-corporate/etc. web in general and USSWR for the webring :)

Is there a way for me to see your collection 👀.

I floated the idea of "The Peoples Network" a while back in another post, and then I found out that chuds have captured that name. It's also apparently the name of a multilevel marketing company.

I do like the sound of "The People's Web" as a subsection of the Indie/alt web movement, though. I did manage to acquire the domain abolish.capital which I'm just itching to use as more than just a whole ass copy of the manifesto.

it's to bad .web tld are not a thing (yet). I feel like I'd need to grab a good thepeoplesweb.tld. I could probably get www[.]peopleswebr[.]ing.

I don't have it displayed anywhere at the moment, but I'll let you know if I put something up.

Here's some sites that are the type I look for (no particular order). I recommend looking at the external links of the archived sites if you'd like to go browsing around more sites from the same era. Looking up communist related search terms on https://gifcities.org/ can also bring you to some interesting sites. And looking at the oldest archived versions of currently active sites can dig up some interesting outlinks too.

I'll keep an eye on abolish.capital. It really would be fun if you got a webring going. And maybe you should list the page on https://sitesforpalestine.neocities.org/ when you have some other content up :D

The RedRing? The week when decades happen? Workers of the world united? The bunker? The people's web? The deeply serious communists? Karl's chill corner?

The Popular Front For Liberation and Socialism Webring, or PFLSWR if you're nasty. WWWW, Workers World Wide Webring. USSWR, The United Socialist Sites Webring. Cominterwebring, or the Communist International Webring. PLWR, The Peoples Liberation Webring. The Abolish Capital Webring (apparently abolish[.]capital is an available domain name).

apparently abolish[.]capital is an available domain name

I vote for abolishing its availability by taking it.

Discussion Community for fellow Marxist-Leninists and other Marxists.

Rules for /c/communism

Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.

  1. No non-marxists

This subreddit is here to facilitate discussion between marxists.

There are other communities aimed at helping along new communists. This community isn't here to convert naysayers to marxism.

If you are a member of the police, armed forces, or any other part of the repressive state apparatus of capitalist nations, you will be banned.

  1. No oppressive language

Do not attempt to justify your use of oppressive language.

Doing this will almost assuredly result in a ban. Accept the criticism in a principled manner, edit your post or comment accordingly, and move on, learning from your mistake.

We believe that speech, like everything else, has a class character, and that some speech can be oppressive. This is why speech that is patriarchal, white supremacist, cissupremacist, homophobic, ableist, or otherwise oppressive is banned.

TERF is not a slur.

  1. No low quality or off-topic posts

Posts that are low-effort or otherwise irrelevant will be removed.

This is not a place to engage in meta-drama or discuss random reactionaries on lemmy or anywhere else.

This includes memes and circlejerking.

This includes most images, such as random books or memorabilia you found.

We ask that amerikan posters refrain from posting about US bourgeois politics. The rest of the world really doesn’t care that much.

  1. No basic questions about marxism

Posts asking entry-level questions will be removed.

Questions like “What is Maoism?” or “Why do Stalinists believe what they do?” will be removed, as they are not the focus on this forum.

  1. No sectarianism

Marxists of all tendencies are welcome here.

Refrain from sectarianism, defined here as unprincipled criticism. Posts trash-talking a certain tendency or marxist figure will be removed. Circlejerking, throwing insults around, and other pettiness is unacceptable.

If criticisms must be made, make them in a principled manner, applying Marxist analysis.

The goal of this subreddit is the accretion of theory and knowledge and the promotion of quality discussion and criticism.
