Obligatory "not today" disclaimer: actually fucked up over two decades ago, but found out today.

At the dawn of theinternet, I made an account on imgur. I figured (correctly) that I wasn't going to use it often enough for the username to matter much, so I just went with the first part of my email adress and a number four times.

Turns out that there is such a thing as nazi number code and it's never a good idea to use an even number of 8s for usernames when you're not a nazi.

TL;DR: Didn't know about nazi code, accidentally selected an imgur username ending with the equivalent of a double Hitler salute

I would argue that it's incredibly privileged to worry about Nazis. Literally any immediate problem (EQ: Roadwork that never ends) matters more. It's almost like worrying about the fall of the Roman empire, there's things to actually worry about, and you're wasting time and energy on that? If you're that bored, try getting a hobby, or maybe finding a girlfriend. Something, anything, because guess what? This isn't 1944, it's 2023, and we are so far removed from Nazis that it's more indicative of an extremely bored mind than anything else.

@Blamemeta You avoided the second question: what do you think a Nazi is?

[-] Blamemeta@lemmy.world -4 points 1 year ago

A member of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei? Charitably, you can include wannabe members in that, like the kids that were in the German Youth program. At best, all Nazis are a 100 years old at tgis point. They are not a threat.

I thought it was a rhetorical question, tone is lost through text.

[-] immibis@social.immibis.com 5 points 1 year ago

@Blamemeta If a man stands in the public square and yells "Gas the Jews!" and "Heil Hitler!" and does the Nazi salute and has swastika tattoos all over, is it fair to call him a Nazi, even though he is not on the party list of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei?

[-] Blamemeta@lemmy.world -5 points 1 year ago

Well, he isn't. He wants to be, so he's just a wannabe Nazi. Not sure if that makes him lower than a Nazi, or if that's even possible. Further more, he doesn't really pose a threat, he's just some asshole, and assholes are not really worth worrying about. What's one guy gonna do? Shout at people and make them uncomfortable? He's not exactly going to get a following.

[-] immibis@social.immibis.com 4 points 1 year ago

@Blamemeta Seems like a useless way to talk about the world. Maybe we should count him as a Nazi since the only way in which he's not a Nazi is that he's not enrolled in the NSDAP party membership?

[-] Blamemeta@lemmy.world -4 points 1 year ago

Maybe we shouldn't because having membership is literally the only requirement. By that measure, Lincoln, Einstein, and Dolly Parton are all Nazis.

Also if you're replying to me, I don't think you need to link me.

[-] immibis@social.immibis.com 2 points 1 year ago

@Blamemeta Maybe having membership of the NSDAP should not be seen as the proper criterion for being a Nazi. Maybe we should instead say that people with the ideology of the NSDAP are Nazis, no matter whether they're officially registered or not.

[-] immibis@social.immibis.com 1 points 1 year ago

@Blamemeta and I am using a Twitter-style server, which links you when replying. I am not sure if the link is required, but Twitter wouldn't show you the reply if it wasn't linked.

[-] Blamemeta@lemmy.world -3 points 1 year ago

Maybe Im wong, but you've seen my replys right? And I haven't been linking. I think lemmy is its own thing at the moment.

[-] immibis@social.immibis.com 1 points 1 year ago

@Blamemeta I am talking to you from a Twitter interface called Pleroma. I can see your replies to me because Lemmy will send them to me simply because they are replies. I am not sure if Pleroma wil send replies back to Lemmy if they don't link.

[-] Blamemeta@lemmy.world -3 points 1 year ago

It works on the website, so i think its just a regular feature of lemmy

[-] immibis@social.immibis.com 4 points 1 year ago

@Blamemeta Would you say the same to people in 1932, before Hitler was elected?

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

He definitely would. Dude is so sheltered or allowed to be so wilfully blind that he doesn't even know that neo-nazis exist and are a significant problem and he's calling OTHER people privileged 🤦🤯

Edit: I read on and found out that he was just a fascist pretending that he and his buddies are just misunderstood normal conservatives 🤦

[-] immibis@social.immibis.com 2 points 1 year ago

@Viking_Hippie 99% of the time when people try to nitpick the definition of Nazis like this, they're Nazis.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

That's very true and I am intellectually aware, but I have an annoying habit of sometimes being overly optimistic when it comes to assuming good faith so that I miss some that should be obvious lol.

Then again, it's usually the me calling them an idiot rather than a liar, so they don't get a pass either way 😁

[-] Blamemeta@lemmy.world -4 points 1 year ago

Maybe. Lots of things had to happen before the Nazis went full Nazi, but there were some warning signs. Lots of Jew hate, talk about the "Jewish problem" (their words, not mine) and they were an actual German party at the time. Hard to tell with an alternate reality.

[-] immibis@social.immibis.com 3 points 1 year ago

@Blamemeta You mean like the Republican party is doing about transgender people right now?

[-] Blamemeta@lemmy.world -4 points 1 year ago

Children are not able to consent a tattoo, let alone hormones that can sterilize them. Do you not understand consent, because I think you don't.

[-] immibis@social.immibis.com 2 points 1 year ago

@Blamemeta your completely off-topic incoherent reply means nothing but it does tell me you're a nazi since it's a nazi talking point at the moment. Toodle-oo!

[-] Blamemeta@lemmy.world -4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

You mentioned the "persecution" of trans gender people.

[-] 4am@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Dude they have literally been distributing Nazi fliers in the cities near me trying to recruit new members.

Wake the fuck up, or they’ll gather until they are something you wish you’d noticed way earlier.

My grandfather got a Purple Heart in WWII and I’ll be god damned if my daughter is gonna do the same. Fuck Nazi scum.

  1. Posts must be about you.

  2. Must be your fault.
