Hey, what do you know? A game I actually worked on and never thought I would see a mention of again. The first cover was my personal favorite - created by Made / France.

Funny how that works out.

Made / France

Is that the name of the an agency? Do you by any chance know the name of the author of the graphic?

No, that was his demoscene handle. It's an individual guy. Carlos Pardo, I belive.

No worries. He's extremely talented and well-respected in the community. If you have the inclination and ability, I recommend checking out some of the demoscene productions he's contributed to over the years.

The link is only a very partial list. Best I could do on short notice.

Wow, that’s cool!

What parts did you work on?

What do you remember the most?

It was a fairly long process, so most of us worked on any number of subsystems with only a few responsible exclusively for specific things. For example, the dynamic weathering of building textures was done by one guy with a formal background in architecture and a taste for Autechre - you know who you are (kudos! if you'd been able to see the cityscape before that was applied you'd know how much of a difference that addition made to the realism). If I had to pick one thing I worked on more than any other though, it'd be the tech-side of the scripting system.

Now, signed NDA's with no expiration date prevents my from going overly into technical detail and professional courtesy prevents me from naming names, but I don't mind offering up a few self-deprecating anecdotes. Here's a few I can recall:

MediaMobster's initial offices were in a couple of connected 1st floor appartements dab in the middle of Copenhagen quite close to Rundetårn. Unfortunately, it was also right across the road from the Church where the people responsible for such things in Denmark practice Church bell ringing. As you might imagine, that was not conducive to, uh, anything we were doing. Pity, since there was an excellent bar in the bottom floor of the same building with a standing company tab.

(A lot of shenanigans occurred in that location. If you've never had a boss go on a vacation to Japan, buy a sharpened Katana and bring it back for a demonstration by unsheathing it right behind your neck as you're working, well, I won't say you've been missing out exactly.)

So, we eventually moved. Specifically to Nyhavn, specifically to #5. Lovely offices. Sort of a set of triple of stair-connected appartements. Funny story: We were on the verge on going gold (i.e. release) a number of times that didn't quite pan out. Every time, the bosses would gear up for a launch party that didn't manifest. As such, the booze kept... ah, accumulating. Now, the thing is, we had a company tradition of a "mandatory Friday bar". We'd cut work relatively early, mingle and discuss what'd gone on the previous week and expectations for the next one. I.. Don't quite recall exactly how this came about, but after one of them I found myself locked up in our common area with the alarm system armed. And without my shoes and / or phone. Buy hey: There was a fridge with food, a professional coffee machine, a room full of booze and an XBOX with KOTOR right there. So... That was my weekend. As you might imagine, my girlfriend at the time was entirely unimpressed.

There's lots of stories. Don't even get me started on the Royal Wedding.

Video Game Art

Video games are not mere time killers. They are albums of sound, aesthetics, animation and narrative.

This community is in appreciation of that. Screenshots, fanart, animations, gameplay clips. It is all welcome here.

The one common thread should be an eye for the aesthetic. This is not a place to discuss mechanics or stats, but to show off simply the artistic, expressed through the video game medium.

  1. All rules of the parent instance apply. That is, sopuli.xyz
  2. Include the name of the game your post is associated with in the post title.
  3. If your post is fanart, include a link to the artist in post body, if you can. You may also ping @saucechan@ani.social to have it attempt to find the source for you, and provide it in a comment.
  4. MARK ANY TEXT SPOILERS, as for art, do not post content that outright spoils key moments of a games narrative. Content that can only be understood with the context of having played the game, is ok.
  5. No generative AI art.
