I couldn't imagine bringing a gaming device to a family Thanksgiving celebration and insisting on being able to use it instead of socializing with the people physically there.
It was either that or sit in a corner dissociating to survive holidays with my family.
Very boomer answer.
Most kids don't want to socialize with family more than they have to. Even before the gameboy, they would bring coloring books and puzzles to get through the day on their own.
