A lot of people with ultra expensive cars drive in my area If I ever hit one of them without insurance its game over for me

So if you think about it…

You are required to essentially stay destitute for their risk? They choose to drive around in a 180,000 dollar car and “the poors” better have insurance on those Toyota Yaris in case something happens.

The insurance is for you, not them. Your action caused a loss, you are liable to pay for the loss. You can just not get insurance, but either way you need to pay for any damage you caused.

They don't need to drive a 180,000$ car for your insurance being important. They don't need a car at all.

If you hit a cyclist and after a lot of expensive medical care they end up in a wheelchair, unable to work their old job, required to move or rebuild their home to be wheelchair-accessible, you might owe them millions, even though the bike was only 300$.

So, a rich asshole can get another 3000€/$ on top of their upper middle class + money.
