The idea is you enter a parking lot to grocery store, movie theater, or strip club and you want to park as close as possible so that you can get to where you going as fast as possible or travel the least amount of distance. As you go through the parking lot you have a hard time finding a spot and you have to travel to see occasional open spot. You think "so far that's the closest spot but there might be a closer spot. Then you think how long should I spend looking, how long do I spend traveling around the parking lot, how long should I spend planning on finding the best parking spot, and how long do I spend thinking about planning?
It's just fun conundrum that been going through my head that should have interesting answers and has lead me to spends as little time thinking about finding a parking spot and just find the closest spot that I can see and just jump out and get inside the store

The actual resolution to this conundrum is of course: build more public transit and bicycle infrastructure, ban private cars in cities, replace parking lots with multi-story mixed-use buildings.
I realised recently that I have spent pretty much my entire life with a vehicle of some sort within a 100m of me.
I strongly recommend going on hikes in the mountains, ain't no car can get there! (this quickly turn into a problem if you break your leg or something, so be careful)

Lol just cut the gordian knot why don't you. But it's actually kinda hard for me to imagine not having parking space to get to a store. I went to NYC and I'd still imagine a parking garage somewhere
To me it's more surprising to have parking at a grocery store. In places I lived, it's usually just on a ground floor of a residential building, and if there's any parking nearby it's either for residents only, or a municipal parking spot (which is almost always taken up by residents anyways). Almost nobody specifically drives to buy groceries, you just get what you need on your way home from work/gym/after hanging out with friends. Or, if you need to buy a lot of shit, you use a shopping trolley or something.
And I'd still consider cities like that carcentric hellholes, the american suburbia seems just unfathomably bad for me.
