I live in Canada. And you wouldn't be so insistent you were safe if you were a Latino person living in the Untied States. If you are a Latino person living in the Untied States and not afraid, you're an idiot. I hope you're carrying proof of citizenship but that still may not help you
every latino person i know is highly educated and naturalized, so no they are not worried. they also live in very expensive areas where there is no ICE and they dont' give rats ass about illegal immigrants being deported. they are for it.
Why in Canada do you care about illegal immigrants in another country being deported? That's how the law is supposed to work by the way... unless you are legal you're not suppose to be here. Were we just supposed to keep going on not enforcing the laws or something?
A huge problem with Canada's economy is the massive immigration of the past 10 driving up costs for everyone and your governments refusal to limit immigration and/or build more housing and medical resources.

the notion that some of us don't have an agenda to push on other people... doesn't really exist to you I would guess. because any neutrality or lack of alignment with your beliefs is... wrong and bad.
i have this crazy concept that other people are allowed to disagree with me and that's OK. I'm also not an incessant doomer like most of lemmy/piefed is rapidly becoming.

I could go on, but this is easy and boring. Having done that tedious exercise, I find reason to pity you. You habitually project your own inadequacies and shortcomings onto others. You pretend you're just so above it all, while the amount you actually care is betrayed by the amount you write and your persistence in the face of extreme social backlash. As I explained, I'm stressed out by my fellow countrymen ignoring the dangers and traveling to the Untied States, where Canadian tourists are getting detained.
And you're extremely ignorant to think its only illegal immigrants who are in danger.
there is no danger. if you think Trump is going to take over Canada... i worry for your mental health.
Trump does nothing but posture. he's a blowhard and most everything he does is fake and false and poorly executed.

Personally I think people want fascism, especially the extreme left and right. Even if they say they don't, they tacit cheer it on because they feel like it will give them the morally black and white world they so desperately crave and they can go sacrifice themselves for the noble cause and their life would have meaning or something.
I don't see anyone really promoting the old democratic values of the free world much anymore, and often if they do they get labeled a conservative.

I didn't say I thought he would take over Canada. I said I'm annoyed that my grandmother thinks it's funny to tell me he will and that I'm stressed by people willingly travelling to the states where I believe they could be in danger as non-americans visiting the states. Perhaps you're confused that I care what happens to other people besides myself.

your second however... do you realize that like the vermont national guard could take over your country? The canadian military is decades out of date in terms of equipment and training. I agree with you though that your government desperately needs to upgrade and increase it's military spending, especially as it's likely Russian will try to steal your arctic claims in the next 20-30 years.

You know the administration wants to denaturalize naturalized citizens, right? And ICE has been detaining natural born citizens while claiming their identification is fake? I don't know for sure a born citizen has been sent away to a foreign prison, but it seems likely. And that's another thing, sending people to a foreign prison is different than just deporting them to where they came from.
yeah and? that's their prerogative. the american people voted this guy in, he is acting according to the platform on which he was elected.
just because you don't agree with it, doesn't mean it's the end of the world. and frankly you have no voting power anyway, so your opinion is irrelevant other than you getting high on your own righteousness?
i voted against Trump. I wish the Democrats had half the balls he does. Evil or not, he is actually trying to change this country and deal with problems that have been festering for decades. Sucks that he is so shitty and heavy handed about it, but it had to happen sooner or later. I don't think Kamala would have done a much of a better job on immigration policy, porbably just continued to kick the can down the road and pretend it wasn't an issue.
Unlike you, I am not doom and gloom about any of this. Hopefully the democrats will actually have a coherent response/policy to these things and persuade the american people to try something different.

There's no danger whatsoever a naturalized citizen could be detained or deported? I pointed out to you that they're trying to denaturalize citizens and are detaining citizens and claiming their documents are fake and your reply amounted to "so what?"
That isn't how the law works man. If he can change the law, yeah he can do that. As it stands he can't. Maybe it will change, maybe it won't.
Focus more on facts, less on fear.
