And this is why consumer protection laws are so important. What if auto manufacturers did that. Warranty expired? "send the update that causes misfires or leaves the interior lights on and drains the battery"
Ford patented a system that will disable your car if you miss a loan payment, and if you continue not to pay the autonomous driving tech will drive itself back to the dealership
