Also I noticed they're doing this thing where it's "maduro supporters" doing this or that, with the implication being that they're all just the dictator's goons or part of his cult of personality or whatever, subtly removing the agency of Venezuelans to have political ideals of their own

Recuperation of past revolutionary figures is standard liberal practise but having not been around to see the process in action before it does feel really weird.
